Sirs, I have been for some time thinkig about making this purchase. Last spring i purchased the following pair from Orvis, a little known brand from a shop in Piccadily.

They serve me well and i have been wearing the most weekends with my Jeans and they are very comfortable. but i have not matched them very much with my khaki pants....mostly cos i have not worn them during the winter months much and when i have i have worn them with dark brown lace up shoes. So i thought id purchase these desert boots - which i saw Hugh Grant wear with a pair of dark brown khakis - and they looked quite snazzy!

But i am undecided, as they may be considered too last season, too old looking. I am in mind to purchase a pair of medium brown Gant khaki in the next few weeks and the desert boots would look rather snazzy! Any thoughts/advice?

Thanks.

Do you know of any other makers or are Clarks the top brand in such design?

Go ahead.

That is, if you want to look like you just arrived in a time-machine from the Bush Administration.

I'd say they're a classic (at least with a crepe sole).

I wouldn't describe Orvis as little known (although admittedly they're much bigger in the states).

Personally I think Clarks are the classics, and about the only shoes I'd buy from them.

Thanks MoK, Grim really put me on a downer...!

Granted, i should have bought them last year when i first came across/noticed them....i think i will after all.
They will be versatile and go with khakis and jeans!

The pair of boots in the first picture are Palladium Baggy Boots, styled after IDF (Israel Defense Forces) Commando Boots. Orvis just happen to sell them, just like how they sell other 3rd label goods (Hamilton watches etc.)

Regarding desert boots, I assume grim was joking. They have been particularly "in" for the last few seasons or so, but low-key enough to not go so out of style, or look ridiculous, anytime soon.

Go ahead - one of the best evergreen shoes you can have. They have never and will never look out of place in inromal wear.

I bought some of the desert style boots from Jcrew when I was in college back in '03 and have gotten a lot of use out of them. I'm sure they will go out and sure enough come back in style again over the years. I say buy them.

Get em. You can't go too wrong. They will go in and out of fashion, but never out of style when worn with the right outfit.
