I was checking out the Jpress online store and came across these denim trousers:

Initially i tghought this is a horrbile idea, but on a second thought, if this is a lightweight denim 8-10 oz, this could be the perfect hybrid between khakis and jeans

My old boss wore these. I can guarantee you that it is a bad idea. His wife bought them for him. Probably to deter other women.

Dress jeans are a fantastic idea. I am also thinking that someone should come up with a less dressy suit option. Perhaps we could call it the leisure suit.

Your first instinct on this one was correct.

whew, I just saved a hundred bucks, and probably a lot of remorse. The idea of a denim "sport coat" to complement these marvels did it for me .

It really depends on how they're cut and the type of denim. I've seen some flat-front, very slim, very dark/black denim that look quite good; these have mostly been from more fashion-forward designers like Hussein Chalayan or Neil Barrett. Ones that are cut like more like traditional pleated trousers look terrible IMHO; I've mostly seen these on very unfashionable gentlemen in their 70s and 80s - the dishevled oldman look.

This is one of those, "What were they thinking?" moments.

What is really wrong with a decent pair of jeans? Other than in some minds.

I don't even think the die hard trads over at AAAC even approved of these.

I have a pair from Luciano Barbera that I ordered at a trunk show which he attended. He was wearing them with a tweed sportcoat and suede wingtips; That's how I usually wear them.

FF denim trousers are fine but I prefer pleated ones with the elastic waistband. Drawstring is optional but of course preferred

- well worn in raw denim, I'm the process of breaking my APC New Standards (maybe in 6 months!)
