I think they're called J or Frogmouth pockets. See, for example, Get Smart's Thick As Thieves house cut.

They were popular in the 1970s. Sy Devore, tailor to the rat pack,
called them Frontier Pockets. Johnny Carson also wore them
in the 1970s.

Now they are mostly found on western style suits.

I only like frogmouth pockets on trousers

doesnt gape open when you bend down/sit and overall has a cleaner look

First time I ever noticed these was on a Paul Smith suit I bought in the mid 90s and have been a convert ever since.

Interesting choice of words.

I like them on odd trousers and khaki's (GetSmart just barfed), would no get suit pants with them.

I concur. IIRC they were first utilized by carriage drivers.

I have never seen them before, but I camn't imagine it would look pleasing. Personaly I have never had any problems with pleats or pulling pockets, one usualy won't as long as they make sure they have on the right size trousers.

They do look good - used to have them but have more recently gone back to 'normal' slant ones.

I had patch pockets put on the back of a nice pair of odd wool trousers. Flannel, no cuffs, no pleats. Though they're made of "suit" material and look great with all sorts of things, I can't honestly imagine feeling totally comfortable with them as part of a suit. Just my 2 cents.

Something like this? I like it. Puts a casual twist on some flannel dress pants...
