Wondering what the demand is out there by consumers for a quality mens store in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It would be geared to quality items at an affordable price. They would stock skin care items, grooming accessories, staple white mens shirts and other mens necessities that you can't find at your local drug store. Think items like "Agua Lavanda" cologne that Frank Sinatra used to wear. We want to gear it to all sorts of men...your grandfather to the metrosexual to the man's man who wants quality items.

Would a place like this survive in Calgary? We would also like to make it available as an online store to Canadian customers as its so hard getting things shipped here! Please give us feedback!

How would you distinguish yourself from, say, Henry Singer? If the answer is "better taste level", what would that entail, and how would you get vendors to sell to you, unless you already have an established reputation and track record.

IMO, Calgary just got a lot better serviced with Brooks Brothers opening up within the last month.

There's also the likes of Harry, Henry, O'Connors and a decent Holt Renfrew in Calgary. Comparatively, for a city essentially the same size (obviously a different type of population, granted), Edmonton is much more underserviced.

Men's grooming stores are also much better in Calgary - think Rasage Poulin.

To answer your question, I'm not sure the demand is there unless your online presence/service is huge to serve all of Canada.

But the population of Edmonton is very blue collar compared to that of Calgary. So its not clear, part of the problem is that no one cares about clothing here in Edmonton. Even lawyers seem to dress to the low end of suits for the most part.

Oh, I completely agree. (See above.)

By the way, that was an odd necro-bump.

Missed this thread first time around, but I would be interested in seeing where this goes.
