I'm having second thoughts about my decision to order a jacket with a partial lining. I'm beginning to think that a full lining might be preferable.
The jacket cloth is from Holland and Sherry's Silkstream bunch. It's 51% silk, 49% wool. The weight is 270 grams, which should be about 9.5 oz if I'm converting correctly. The bemberg lining would be three-quarters--only the front, the sleeves, and shoulders would be lined, while the back would be unlined.
I chose the partial lining in the interest of having a jacket that is light and cool. However, I live in San Francisco and it just doesn't get that hot here. I do occasionally travel to warmer climates, so it might be nice to have the option of a light jacket with a cool lining. Even so, I don't want a jacket that's suitable only for a tropical climate. Also, I have to confess to enjoying seeing the colorful flash of lining that appears when the wind catches a fully lined jacket with double vents. The partially lined jacket just has edges bound in the lining material, so there won't be any colorful flashes.
I'm wondering whether there are tradeoffs by having a partially lined jacket?
Does a partial lining have a negative effect on the drape of the jacket?
Does a full lining offer some sort of protection to the jacket itself?
Is a full lining that much warmer than a 3/4 lining?
I'm interested in hearing what other people's thoughts and experiences are with different degrees of lining.
