Which makes all those cities superior to Philly... dammit.

Speaking of which, I'm going to post Philly stores here, I'm just really lazy about it. I'll get there eventually, I swear.

Please post Philly!

I go to school here and have a lot of trouble finding anywhere decent for guys to shop...Boyd's is great for dressier stuff, but there's absolutely nowhere in the city that I know of to get really good denim and streetwear (outside of KoP).

A bunch of premium jeans, I know I've seen Nudies in there, don't make me try to remember what else. According to http://www.jargol.com/stores/august/, they carry Acne Jeans, Ever, Habitual, Loomstate, Nili Lotan, Nudie, Rogues Gallery, Velvet.

Actually, many rural stores exist where you think they wouldn't. Some of them sell denim, some don't. But most are learning (some VERY slowly), denim, etc. is what sells, and they want to be stocking what sells.

BTW this will be a VERY extensive directory, and we will need everyone's help reviewing stores regularly.

I had been entertaining the idea of creating something with google maps and integrating lines carried and so on, but i'm too lazy :p
At some point in the future this would be very helpful.

Also: I just learned today of the tremendously cool new 'street view' feature on google maps. If you want to show people where something is, that's a great way to do it.

I only have an afternoon/evening in NYC. How would you prioritize these stores? FYI...I am relatively new to good style, and do not want to spend too much $$$ in high-end boutiques. I prefer brands like 5ep, APC, Rag & Bone, etc.

Concentrate on Lower Manhattan. Nothing is really that far apart. I would say that Odin should be your first stop. It's a very good match for your tastes. They have Engineered Garments, Kicking Mule, etc... They have two locations, either one is good. The East Village location was there first, however. Hit A.P.C., for obvious reasons. I would go to Nom de Guerre next. They have the eponymous line, the very good line Noah, and lots of Wings&Horns. Oliver Spencer and Opening Ceremony should round you out. However, Famous Friends is also worth a visit. The hours are funny (not open Monday and Tuesday, for example,) so you may want to call ahead.

Bump, it would be good to have some more cities in this post. SF maybe? Boston....?. I, unforunately, do not have much in the way of this sort of knowledge.

In Boston, you must go to Alan Bilzerian. Easily the best store in town. Has recently dropped Margiela because prices are going up and quality is going down. I agree with the first assessment. The second is less clear, but it is true that the materials tend to be less interesting lately. Tons of Yamamoto, good selection of Kohzo, lots of great self-labeled stuff sourced from very random places (eclectic rather than a really coherent collection, which is refreshing) Conceptual labels like MA+, Drkshdw, Number(N)ine (I'm wearing a N(N) thermal from there right now). Great accessories and best belt selection in town, by a longshot. Not worried about going against the grain, either, and carries more mainstream stuff from James Perse, AG cashmere, and Lanvin alongside Jas MB bags and more.

Stels is considerably more wearability. Nom de Guerre, W&H, V::room, A.P.C., Crosby Hallen and Cobb, 16sur20, amd Acne are all wearable, though not as exciting as the stuff at Alan's.

Drinkwaters is good for Engineered Garments and some cool socks.

Bodega is aimed at the more "streetwear" crowd, but you may find stuff you like.

Louis is a bust unless you are really jonesing for Dries van Noten

The Tannery is rather Fratastic, but the sneaker collection is decent, and they have labels like B.Son. The buyers told me they were revamping the lineup, but I moved before they moved into the new store.

Are they cool with you just looking around at Alan Bilzerian, or do they look down upon it? I would like to see some of that stuff in person, but I doubt I could afford it. Thanks for the list!

The guys who work there are really nice and helpful, and they are more than content to let people look around (although, ime, there are not as many browsers there as at other stores. Maybe the buzz-in system is daunting.) Alan himself can be a bit of a prima donna, and comes off a little standoffish at first, but is generally quite friendly. I've heard from people who have known him a long time that he is just shy.

Of course, there are people who insist of being assholes, and who wonder why they are treated as such.
