Maybe a little bit of a long shot, but i'm in shanghai for the week. Are there any decent stores for shoes out here? I thought i had heard Santoni in Beijing or was it Berluti, but anything worth checking out here?

I had a look at CITIC Square and Plaza 66, which are not short of the Vacheron's, Frank Muller and standard array of designer labels, but not much else.. and then of course there is Chan's up here..

But alas, i need some shoes...

Lattanzi has a store in Hanchau (sp?), I believe it's a tourist resort town not far from Shanghai. But seriously why bother, whatever quality western brands you can find there they are most likely going to be more expensive than those in the West.

Hangzhou, which is a rather odd place to open a Lattanzi store. I've been, and it's sort of stuck in the corner of this hotel.

When one looks at the various outlets chosen by a particular high end maker there are often one or two locations where their goods seem incongruous to a particular venue. I do know, from experience, that hoteliers sometimes offer to waive(or significantly discount) rent to entice certain tenants, particularly restaurants.

They are trying to create a fashion centre in Hangzhou. Ferrari also have a store there. I find it particularly incongruent with the natural beauty of the nearby lake.

Many of the world's great shopping districts have been located on or near a river, lake or sea.

Hermes also had a store there. I was also surprised and confused.

I couldn't resist when checking out what is now called the "South Bund Material Market" that they were making doing MTM suits for RMB650 (USD80) - the sample they show me was not canvassed but it was pretty well cut and they assured me that they do do canvassed suits (although my mandarin isn't all that great), so i am thinking that they're not - so this is more of an experiment now.

Material is a 130s (10oz i believe) and is in the works now... finished product ready for photos on tuesday

It seems to be a bit obscure to base a fashion point in Hangzhou.
