Hey all,

So, I often search through ebay for extralong Talbott Best of Class ties. Well, I frequently see sellers that state their 60" ties are XL. Of course, the tie tag (or whatever it is called) does not state "extra long" because the normal Talbott BOC tie length is 59-60". From what I understand, a BOC XL is 62". Am I wrong? Or just deceitful selling?

I don't know you are right or wrong. "Deceiful selling" might be a harsh statement. Most of my ties (in regular length) are around 56"-58" long from all sorts of brands such as EZ, RLPL, HB, and etc. It could be just the case that some sellers assume 60" are XL. And stating XL usually doesn't fetch more $$ from ebay, so I question the motivation of such "deceitful selling".

First off, I don't know any manufacturers for whom their XL tie is only 60". Second, practically every manufacturer will state on the tie "tag" that it is an XL. And none of these 60" ties have that label by Talbott.

You are probably correct as 57 to 59 inches is a normal size with 57 being normal traditionally in America think Brooks Brothers, Lands End etc and 59 being common in Italy - perhaps they wear more Windsor knots? However, I doubt that the sellers are being deceitful - more likely confused.... By the way I once bought an unlined Talbott seven-fold on EBay for $10 that was perhaps from there first year of making them. Talbott is a good company.
