Some interesting developments in DC over the weekend:

Filene's Basement at Connecticut Avenue and Mazza Gallerie received a new shipment from Mitchell's and Richard's. Mostly dress clothing; a lot of Canali. Definitely worth checking out. Filene's is also having a suit sale. At Connecticut Avenue, there is a rack of Corneliani suits, primarily sizes 42R and 44R, discounted from $800 to $600. Not a screaming deal, but not a bad one. Mazza Gallerie has a large selection of work-appropriate Brooks Brothers ties selling for $19.99. Might be worth picking up a few, particularly in light of no sales tax for purchases under $100 through August 13.

The F/W shipment has come in for department stores. Saks Mazza has started carrying Etro. Neiman-Marcus also carries Etro (and many of the same pieces), but unlike NM, Saks puts the entire store on sale during their seasonal closeouts. Neiman's Mazza has started carrying Kiton shoes. They are definitely drool-worthy. The price of admission to the club is not cheap: $2,250, or twice the cost of an EG special order. Whether they are worth it is for you to decide.

The Filene's Basement at Connecticut Avenue recently received a shipment from Louis Boston. Lots of Luciano Barbera.

Not to mention Nicky ties, a Haspel seersucker sport coat for $50, and a nice pair of JM Weston loafers; but, as usual, nothing in my size but a few pairs of socks...

I can't recall, maybe $250? There were some Tramezzas and Santonis too. Mostly things were in the 10-11 range...

K.. checked Filene's on Connecticut..

Pickings were pretty slim in 44R though they did have quite a bit of Oxxford, some Canalis, Cornelianis, Zegna.. and of course HF, HSM, etc.

Shoes - blah. One rack:

Found Tramezza black wholecuts, 9D - 269
JM Weston pennys in 10.5D, 269
Santoni pennys, didn't check the prices or sizes.. basically mostly penny loafers.

I was going to check the Mazza store but bleh, perhaps this weekend, if there's anything left.

I'm jealous. Our Atlanta Filene's wouldn't know the finer brands if the Governor ordered them to.

So I was out on a training ride this weekend in Old Town Alexandria and was riding up Cameron Street. There was a building under construction maybe two blocks or so up from the river, and it had a huge poster on it that said:

Really Nice Clothes

Donna Lewis - Old Town

Kiton
Belvest
Robert Clergerie
(some other designers)

Men and Women

Open during construction.

There was another one that said to check out the "Donna Lewis Outlet."

Anybody know anything about this place? A hidden gem? Would have stopped in but for the sweat and spandex ...

Cheers,

Hoya

On Cameron, between S. Fairfax and S. Royal, if I remember correctly. Should be the 300 block.
