Glad to hear about the DB coming back in. I can dig out my first one from 1994 that I always really liked.

Haven't worn a 3-piece since I was a little kid in Christmas pictures from the late '70s and hate the way the hipsters wear them now. Anyone remember the ones Thomas Haden Church wore on "Ned & Stacey" back in the mid-90's? I always thought those looked really cool at the time.

All this shows is that one style is not "in style" at the moment.

I could write the same article about how 1950s style small collar, no pleat, 3 piece suits are in style at the moment (a la Mad Men). Just because Tom Ford sold a few double breasted suits to Brad Pitt doesn't really mean they are in style. I'd say I see 1 DB suit for every 50 SB I see in store.

Maybe he means the awful 6 to 1 DBs that were so popular back then?

I think they picked a rather unfortunate representation of the three-piece for the article.

Actually, I like 6x1 DB lounge coats. In fact, I just put an order in for my tailor to make one, as part of a three piece suit. My tailor raised his eyebrows and said that it hadn't been in fashion since the 1980's. I said I know and didn't care, but added that they are probably due to come back in soon. They made an appearance in the 1920/30s, then again in the 1950's, then in the 1980s.

However, this is truly dreadful:

I also do not care for the white collar band showing under the collar, next to the tie knot. Contrasting white collars on shirts look better with the band matching the shirt body, IMO.
