d'Avenza Windowpane Suit

I'm contemplating making this purchase. I know windowpane suits tend to be hit or miss around here. What do you gentlemen think of this suit? Are the lines subtle enough to be worn in a business environment? I would like to diversify from the solids and stripes that dominate my wardrobe.

Also, can anyone comment on the fit of d'Avenza? I ordered an Isaia and it broke my heart to return it because I loved the fabrics, but the arm holes were too tight. Is d'Avenza a traditionally form fitting line?

If it was your only suit I'd say stay away from a windowpane. As one of many in a rotation however I think it's a great option - I have a couple myself. That one in particular looks outstanding, and certainly acceptable in a business environment. I wouldn't wear one that's too dramatic, nor if you're a larger size, but otherwise it's a fine choice.

I do not own an d'Avenza, but have tried them on. If I'm not mistaken it fits in the middle of the Italian brands - not as trim as Isaia, but not as boxy as Canali. As with all of the manufacturers of course it probably depends on the model. Given STP's generous return policies there's little risk.

I never liked them but you can wear them and because of it's faintness this one is relatively harmless. It's the bold ones that run you into trouble.

I've often wondered with STP suits like this one, where they give the various lengths for S, R, and L sizes in the description, but don't identify the particular suits available as small, regular or long -- should you assume the ones for sale are regular, or is it hit/miss?

I would assume it's a regular, but couldn't hurt to ask them ...

I much prefer the windowpane in a woolen than in a worsted. The fuzzier, the better.

I'm not particularly a fan of windowpane suits. Solids or pinstripes for me.

Well, except when it comes to odd jackets.

Since this thread was brought back up top, I thought I would comment on the quality of the suit. It is outstanding. Very nice hand finishing. The suit is cut very similiar in the shoulders and arms to an Isaia. As a result, I had to end up returning the suit as it was too tight.

That's a shame! What size did you end up ordering, and what size do you normally wear?

I am usually a 44/46. The 46 is problematic as the pants require a significant recut. I ordered a 44 and I really wanted it to fit, but it was simply too small. I am going to give up buying off the rack and start getting some MTM suits. I seem to comprise fit in one area or another to get off the rack suits to work.
