Date is wearing black dress... What do I wear?

I got a last minute invite to a work event and my date is wearing a black dress (the event is not black tie). What's the best menswear choice to match?

I only have a navy suit... I presume I need to wear black shoes and a white dress shirt, but what do I do about the tie? Any recommendations? In the future, if I had a black suit, would it be the better choice?

Thanks for the advice!

Navy is a better choice than black. Except for formal black suits are best left for funerals. Is the suit solid navy or ?

Thanks for the reassurance! Suit is solid navy... Any suggestions on the tie? Wear whatever?

If it was me I would go with a plain white shirt with vintage cufflinks and a white pocket square I think they look good against a dark suit. Something classic and bright for the tie like a red stripe and black shoes and belt

One thing you can do is google your combination and see some examples I googled

navy blue suit red striped tie

And looked at the images

+1 on Navy Blue, it would complement with the dress of your date.

Don't overthink this. There is no specific tie color or shoe color you need to wear. It's not a formal event. You don't need black cap toes. You don't need a pocket square. Wear what you would normally wear with your navy suit. Don't go buy new articles of clothing as long as your tie is current and not completely out of style.
