This may help a bit. The picture below (Stolen from SF somewhere) is a similar shade to the jacket and pants that I have. My jacket is single breasted and slim 2 button. The shoes are a similar shade. I planned on pairing it with a white shirt with lavender stripes, brown watch/belt and a lavender pocket square. (Or a pink shirt with white square) No tie. Thoughts?

I don't like the combination of this shade of blue and light grey. I feel it would look better with mid/dark grey pants.

I also don't like light brown shoes with grey pants.

Yes I think the pants look better. The fit of the jacket also bothers me. It makes his hips look really wide. Shoes are still too light for me. Don't mind me though, I have some very stringent tastes.

The tie is not working. Try a tie with more intense colour(s). It should 'pop' against the jacket and shirt.

I think you may have lost sight of the fact that that picture is not of the thread poster. He only posted it for reference regarding colors of shoes, trousers and jacket. He wrote "I planned on pairing it with a white shirt with lavender stripes, brown watch/belt and a lavender pocket square. (Or a pink shirt with white square) No tie."

    Agreed on all points:

I don't find that DB flattering in that picture.

I don't think the picture posted is 'dark navy', so if your jacket is dark navy the darker trousers would be even more appropriate.

My tastes are very traditional, so black shoes only for an evening event.

With blazer and dark grey trousers in the day, very dark brown shoes only in my case. I don't wear suede, but have seen that well-executed.

No doubt the American posters will now debate how to avoid looking like a security guard for the next five pages - as a Limey, I've never understood this association![IMG]

The answer is easy. Excellent tie, well fitting clothes. Brown shoes. Shirt with a pattern. Any or all of these.

No, no. We will debate whether it can be called a "blazer" if it doesn't have gold buttons.

I never understood this until I saw it for the first time on the bailiffs while serving jury duty last month. Perhaps I would avoid this combination if I worked in the legal profession.

I've always liked the higher contrast of a lighter grey better anyway.

I do work in the legal profession, and in my neck of the woods navy and greys are common year-round attire for lawyers and judges alike (at least at those levels of court where robes are not required). I pair navy with lighter grey in the spring and summer months.

There are so many options for a navy blazer, hence why it's such an essential wardrobe item. Of course, totally depends on how conservatively you have to dress, but check below photos for a couple of extra options

My Jacket is really dark navy, almost looks black. The pics above are nice but lighter than my jacket.

So here's what I was planning:

I measure a 40, but this blazer in a 40 seemed big so I went with a 39 and I still feel the shoulders are a /tad/ wide, but I can live with it.

Thoughts on the look? I am still debating the color of the shirt/pocket square, and I also have the same pants in a lighter shade I may try.
