Dark gray Oxfords appropriate for evening attire?

Hi,
I got a very good deal on a high quality perfectly fitting dark gray (almost black) Oxfords. First, my plan was to use black SAPHIR shoe cream to darken them black but I kind of really like the dimension the irregular gray tone creates.

Do you think dark gray is classic enough to wear them at weddings, funerals, business occasions and maybe even as evening attire?
Or should I rather make them black all the way?

My guess is those are black shoes that have bloomed a bit and just need a brush and polish. Calling @DWFII or @ntempleman to opine...

I would wear these in any occasion where dark brown Oxfords would be acceptable, basically I would avoid to wear them only in the most formal events.

These are perfectly fine. Look like some lower tier Santoni, if I had to throw a guess.

Not really. They have only been worn once so far. However, I used SAPHIR Lotion and they got a little lighter than they were before.

I am planning to wear these also on formal events. I don't like the pair of black Oxfords I have and will sell them. These are supposed to replace my previous Oxfords to become my most formal pair.

Even for most formal occasions?
Good guess! I love Santonis but these are actually Magnannis. Not too far from Santoni style though ;)

I have a pair of museum calf in grey. Sadly, they can look brown in some light, and as such just cannot substitute a black shoe. Black and formal is quite a strict line, transgressing this just goes not show respect to the occasion. Black is has to be. Sorry, IMHO

Yea I don't think those substitute for black. @daizawaguy has it right, IMO. Black shoes are black shoes and are used for certain occasions where the line is stricter. You wear them to business meetings, funerals, weddings, etc.

It also doesn't look like blooming, but like the "cloud grey" EG uses. IMO, that kind of leather isn't very useful. Museum calf is hard to wear, and unusual colors such as grey even harder. For classic looks, it doesn't really have much of a place in a wardrobe

They look very close to black to me. If you like them, wear them.

Fine for everything you mentioned except evening attire. Get a proper pair of black shoes if you plan to wear them with a dinner jacket.
