As my hopes were dashed by the Brooks Bros pair I ordered that turned out to be tan, I am looking for a dark brown pair of suede chukkas (ideally with a good grippy rubber sole for rain and DC metro snow/ice). And, I would like to keep the price around the $150 neighborhood.

I am considering these from Herring and

these Loake boots via Pediwear

Any other suggestions? Dark brown is definitely nonnegotiable but I guess I could do leather soles (and then add some kind of vibram topy) if that would mean getting the best boot for buck.

I say go for the Loakes. Herring has the same boot (made by Loake, on the same last) under their house label with a single leather sole rather than the Dainite on the Loake-branded Kemptons, but I think a Dainite sole is perfect for this boot. Here are (great) photos of the Loake Kemptons. Don't remember where they came from, but they're not mine.

I've been wanting to order a pair of suede Kemptons for a long time, but just don't know what size I'd be, and there isn't anywhere I know where I can try them on.

I love my Canali dark brown suede Chukkas. They still had a few pairs for < $200 at the HR Last Call last time I checked in 10.5 or 11. That said, suede is not a good upper for snow, rain...

The DC area is pretty mild in terms of winter; nothing like Toronto.
I still plan on protecting them though.

The Herring branded boots look nice, but I would prefer the Loake ones since they are Goodyear welted (instead of Blake welted like the Herring ones) and at least with Loake you know what you are getting while the Herring boots come from some unknow factory in Portugal.

Does anyone here have any experience with the Herring Graduate line?

The shoes in the above pic are the Herring Graduate boots the topic starter was referring to. Now if they woudl only make a pebble grain boot with goodyear welted Dainite sole......

I bought 2 years ago the Loake suede chukkas from CT with leather soles.
http://www.ctshirts.co.uk/p/9auba5/...=Relevance&page=1&back=False&canned=&browse=Y

I ordered them half size too small, probably that's why they're not very comfortable. I am wearing them in bad weather, they are pretty solid, classic, but not ellegant.

Since I bought other suede chukkas more fashionable (Boss, Bally, Tods) that look much nicer but they are not that well made.

If I would go for another pair, it would be either CJ or Grenson Rose (available at pediwear)
e.g Chertsey Suede

or these in grain if my size

Summoning this thread from the graveyard to ask:

Anyone got any leads on brown suede chukkas in the less-than-$175 range?

With all the sales about, there's gotta be a good one somewhere... Ordered a pair from the recent Tyrwhitt sale, but they don't fit and they've sold out of the next size down, so back they will go.

I want something nice enough to wear with business-causal outfits, so the Clark's desert-boot style is not what I'm looking for.

I've tried these on. They tend to run rather large.

From what I've read, most people usually say to go -0.5 size from US -> UK. For these Loakes it was an easy -1.

I'm a 9D in Allen Edmonds and fit very well into an 8F. Go one size down and you should be good.
