Four questions about dark blue jeans and brown AE's:

1) What AE's in dark brown would look best with dark blue jeans (Strands, PA's, Fith Avenue)?

2) Are there any models from the list above that should not be worn with dark blue jeans?

3) What color socks to wear?

4) Should they be dress socks or more casual?

Thanks

Strands, though I'd prefer a derby (blucher) type such as the MacNeil to go with jeans.

Park Avenue and Fifth Avenue are both too formal, in my book. I wouldn't wear them with anything less formal than dress slacks. The broguing on the Strand helps make it more casual, in spite of being an oxford (balmoral).
3) What color socks to wear?
Either match the jeans or go for contrast. Don't wear dark brown socks with dark brown shoes.
4) Should they be dress socks or more casual?
As long as they're not tube socks or gym socks, they should be OK. If they're too much thicker than your dress socks, your feet will hurt.

I would suggest the AE San Marco for jeans. For socks, I would suggest navy or perhaps a pattern like argyle with some navy, tan, brown.

I agree with all of the above. Most importantly, you should consider a blucher over a balmoral.

the more broguing the better in this situation.

I'd probably pick the Macneil.

the blobbiness of most AEs is helpful

Don't rule out AE's 'Walnut' or 'Burnished Walnut' finishes. This is a medium brown that will look a lot better with denim than dark brown.
Strand and Bel Air are two models that come to mind as options.

Not a fan of jeans myself, but I have to wonder why so many guys want to wear dress shoes with jeans. Seems like an odd combo to me.

Dont want to hijack the thread, but also don't want to waste space with a new one. How do you guys feel about these with jeans? Church's Custom Grades similar to AE Chili in color i think.

Those are a little too formal for my taste. I find that shoes with a lot of sheen to them throw off the casual nature of denim.

I want a pair of AE Elgins, but would these fall into the too formal/shiny category?

+1

Check out the Clifton in dark brown, similar to the cap toe of the fifth ave but it's a bloucher

I have these AE Troys in Walnut. Would these be more appropriate with jeans?

Are these new? Not sure I've seen them before... As far as shiny goes, you have to work to keep your shoes shiny, so if you didn't want them shiny.... I think that'd be pretty easy to arrange

I like the shoe though, it's still a balmoral for jeans though, but with all the broguing it would be fine in my opinion (and probably 95% of the populations who don't know different types of shoes)
