From Rolling Stone

Singer-songwriter Dan Fogelberg died yesterday at his home in Maine after battling prostate cancer for over three years. He was fifty-six. Fogelberg started out performing in rock bands near his hometown of Peoria, Ill., then switched to performing solo in college, becoming popular in the 70's and 80's with songs like "Longer," "The Power of Gold," "Leader of the Band" and "Same Old Lang Syne." Fogelberg released his last album, Full Circle, in 2003. A message posted yesterday on his official site says Fogelberg died with his wife at his side and says, "His strength, dignity, and grace in the face of the daunting challenges of this disease were an inspiration to all who knew him."
Have adult contemporary stations there paid tribute yet?

Always a favorite.

I don't want to remember how long ago (1973) it was I saw a live performance here in San Diego. His songs were always a little more personal than most other popular tunes.

That's really sad. 56 is very young for such a talented guy to go.

Wow, I'm shocked. I've strummed my way thru many an unworthy rendition of 'Same Old Lang Syne' and 'Leader of the Band'. Great songwriter and singer. RIP.

Especially when you are 56!

Saw him live, once. Unfortunately it was a night when he had had problems with the promoter and he chose to take it out on the audience. Performed brilliantly, but between every song we had to hear about "don't know why I'm even doing this tonight", "f*ck them this, and f*ck them that". It sadly left a bad taste in my mouth for a performer who's music I enjoyed.
