Is smoking a pipe likely to undermine some of what was accomplished in years of expensive orthodontia? Many years ago, when pipe puffing was far more common and even many young guys indulged in the habit, I recall some were in such a hurry to get into it they didn't even wait to have the braces removed from their teeth. Guess it is possible to puff on a pipe and wear braces at the same time.... Wonder if any of these urbane types told their orthodontists, let alone dentists.

I would imagine that if you've got the bit clamped in your teeth (not correct anyways) it could mess up your grill over time. The effects of the smoke on your mouth, gums, and soft pallet is going to depend on frequency of smoking, size of bowl, how you smoke it (do you smoke "hot?") and possibly even the type of tobacco you smoke.
