Dacks and other Canadian shoe brands

I found these nice Fredericton made loafers yesterday. As we know, Dacks and Hartt shoes were all manufactured in Fredericton from 1958 on, excepting the Bond St. and Gold Bonds, and a few shoes from Spain and Mexico. We also knew that some Hartt and Dack offerings were identical other than the shoe sock. This pair takes that one step further. One shoe is a Dack and the other is a Hartt: same coding, same size, same everything. My size too, and I love loafers in the summer for BBQ's, or just running the recycling to the curb. This pair is a nice eggplant colour with very thick soft leather. Keepers. 10.5 D. For some reason I always need a half size more in loafers.

Cool pair! Maybe one shoe got the liner replaced.

I found these early 1950 Dacks on eBay last week for $30 Cdn with free shipping! They were advertised as size 9, but when I opened the box I saw they were 10D. My size!!!! I am off to buy a lottery ticket. I just love these old Dacks that were made at the Toronto factory.

They have the early 3 digit style coding which likely means they date between late 1949 and 1952. The only slight bummer is that I cannot find an advertisement for this shoe in the newspaper database, so I don't know what they were called. I like to call my shoes by their proper name. C'est la vie.

They are the same shoe as the brown version that @suitforcourt hooked me up with earlier this fall (picture attached), except the brown shoes have double soles which results in the more pronounced welting.

I have found a second image of the pre-war Bond Street shoe sock. At that time the Bond Street shoes were all made in Canada from Canadian leather. The first image I had found only showed the bottom half, however the second image, while not as clear provides the missing link! The second image is from a 1940 Bond Street golf shoe.

Black cap toe Dacks in CG. These were likely made for police or military given the generous toe box and thick laces. Paid $1.12 for these.
