Here is a cool pair of Dacks aluminum shoe trees. Either 1946-49 or pre-war as they would not have been made in metal during the war years. I suspect they are from the 30's given the long ribbon under the lettering . It would be interesting to look at them closely. I have similar pairs made for Church and I bet these were made in England.

Here are 14 more 1950's Dacks Custom Grades that have turned up, reaching back to 1948. I have also shown one 1954 image of the "Cambridge" which is superior to the one previously posted in that it shows the "Scotch Grain" that was labelled as Zebu grain in the shoes , as well as a better image of the "Strand".

I saw those on eBay, and they were my size....I once got a new set of heels put on a similar pair in China and the weight of the heel was like a red Russian hockey puck.

They are not mine, From another thread. The verdict was they are shell. It looks that way to me. There was just the one decent photo, but you can see the coding a little in this one. There is no reason why they shouldn't be. Likely a custom order. I have searched the ads and McHale never advertized shell, but they never advertized a lot of things.

It would certainly makes sense if post-International Shoe Company acquisition. So likely 1960 at the earliest (by the time it could have been put into production).

Yes they would be post 1960. The custom shoe thing seems to have been a 1960 phenomenon. The little bit of discussion on the other thread suggested that someone else had another pair, and the Vintage Shoe Addict somewhere else posted a photo of a pair of plain toes that he said were shell. but it is not obvious as they are nearly mint and could be calf.

Found these lovely plain toe blucher's out and about yesterday, likely from the late 1960s-1970s, sock liner is fairly worn but knew them to be Dack's, storm welted, nails in the spine and most curiously a certain collector's 9E sizing, although I think likely they are not wide enough

I found these nice Fredericton made loafers yesterday. As we know, Dacks and Hartt shoes were all manufactured in Fredericton from 1958 on, excepting the Bond St. and Gold Bonds, and a few shoes from Spain and Mexico. We also knew that some Hartt and Dack offerings were identical other than the shoe sock. This pair takes that one step further. One shoe is a Dack and the other is a Hartt: same coding, same size, same everything. My size too, and I love loafers in the summer for BBQ's, or just running the recycling to the curb. This pair is a nice eggplant colour with very thick soft leather. Keepers. 10.5 D. For some reason I always need a half size more in loafers.
