As we well know, Savage shoes of Cambridge purchased Scott-McHale in early 1959, shortly after Savage had been purchased by Interco (owners of Florsheim) in the early 50's. Although Savage was Canada's largest shoe maker, we seldom see their products as they primarily made children's footwear. If anyone here has a young daughter that wants to "be like dad", you might consider this pair of NOS in box Children's Size 6 ankle boots. They are listed on eBay (not mine).

Hi everyone, I just bought a pair of black cap-toe oxford Gold Bond Hartt. However, as I received the shoe today, I notice that the sole is very slim, there is no stitching on the upper, and the "stitching" on the sole is painted. So are they cemented and not welted shoes? I was assuming that the Gold Bond Hartt made in England was Goodyear welted so I didn't ask the seller.

The leather upper seems like corrected grain too. Are these counterfeit by any chance?

I doubt they're fake. Too much work for a brand like Hartt.

However, Hartt had many cemented shoes.

@Jiqea can tell you more.

View attachment 1585091

And those Made in England chelsea boots are Gold Bond by Hartt...or were they Dack's Bond Street?

... or...

both?

I have seen that exact lace in enough of the Cambridge U-wings now to make believe that it must be the original factory issue.

I have a pair of the split personality Dacks/Hartt loafers. Most Gold Bonds and Bond Streets were made in England but some were made in Canada. My pair of loafers were Canadian made. Does your pair of Chelseas have English or Canadian coding?

Nothing fake about them. Just a cemented shoe. Dacks and Hartt made tons of cemented shoes, many of which are quite lovely.

In my pre-pandemic rotation, I have about 8 pair of Dacks/Hartt shoes with cemented soles and they have held up perfectly over many years of wearing -- so no worries on that front. Post-pandemic, I've got a lot of dusting and polishing to do before heading back to the office :)

The coding is illegible but I think I can make out a Canadian C/D width.

If it shows a C/D width then they are english made. Weird how they screwed up the liners. Besides my pair I have seen one other like that.

Florsheim by McHale.

Made in London ON, and rebuilt by a cobbler in London ON.

JR soles, cat paw heels, and toe taps.

I've been busy trying to get a start-up I'm involved with ready to pursue funding so I've haven't been able to be all that active with thrifting (and the necessary cleaning and photographing).

Here are a few of the Canadian things I've been able to gather over the last few months.

Canada West oxfords (2nd pair I've found now)

Hartt Water Bison Derby (bluchers?). I've posted these here before but have taken some better photos now.

Dack Prairie Oxhide Derby (Hand sewn details)

Dack Camel Loafers
1CG_2783.JPG

McHale Florsheim Imperial Longwings. These were in rougher shape that what I would usually grab... but they are so darn hard to resist.

And lastly, see if you can identify the model of these mystery Dack shoes...

These were a bit of a head scratcher for me. They were sourced by my Dad in the Okanogan who has standing orders to grab any decent condition Dack shoes he spots.

Turns out...

with a set of Dack's insoles

It works out okay for me as I've a pair of whole-cut Kudus that are just a bit big for me - but now I've a set of 'matching' insoles that make them fit just right.
