Yes it was the toughest to break in of any of my 9 or so boots (not all Whites)and painfull on the ankle bones. It took about 10 or so miles of walking to loosen up.
I kinda figured that might be the case. I would have chosen Horween HH if I would have known that. That said, these will be some robust boots when they get a bit more supple.

I am curious about the lack of comfort when using the top hook when lacing. I find it painful on the ankle when I use that hook. I did not have that issue on my BH's. MP's or SD's. Why is it the case with just the Stevens?

I can't speak to a Stevens - I don't own one. My Maryam's are bounty hunters - I don't really have an issue with the top hooks - the leather was just really stiff and was uncomfortable on the bones - but my calf was never an issue.

They're here!

13c LTT Bounty hunter in Brown smooth, soft toe, 7" roll top, Vibram 430. I'm 14b on a Brannock.

They're perfect, no flaws, no loose threads, really even stitching etc.

Kyle at Bakers nailed the sizing, they fit absolutely perfectly with exactly how much toe room I wanted. Width is dead on and the LTT is great for dialing in the instep fit.

They're really heavy but disappear on my feet. The 55 last has a really nice rocker to it and with the Cuban/logger heel they have a nice "roll" to them when walking. The arch ease is no joke and really does feel like standing on the rung of a ladder, but not in a painful way, very supportive.

The brown smooth is thick but far, far softer than I was expecting. Extremely comfortable out of the box, wouldn't hesitate to go on a long walk with them.

Fine looking boots!
I was very surprised how soft White's Brown oil tan and red dog leathers turned out to be, I have been wearing them alot.
Today was Brown oil tan day for me.

For sure! I was fully expecting them to be stiff as heck with this being their thick "work" leather. The outer surface is hard but otherwise it's really supple and comfortable.

I ordered mine with double mid soles and leather lining. It took each pair 5-6 weeks of daily wear before the leather(s) was comfortable but now they are almost as supple as CXL.

How were these to break in? I have a pair of Stevens in this leather and the White bite on my ankles is quite painful. I can go about 1/2 day before I have to loosen the laces. It is impossible for me to lace up the top hook. I find the Maryam leather thick, dry, and stiff. I hope it softens up. My BH's are CXl and MP's HH. Both were pretty easy to break in.

Hmm, this doesn't bode well for me lol. I have 2 pairs of Maryam horsebutt boots I'll receive in a couple months, but from an Indonesian maker so maybe the leather won't be as thick as what Whites uses.

Since we are talking about break ins of different types of leather, I want to revisit the topic of Latigo vs HH : )
How do you compare the two?

For me, the top hook on the Stevens is not uncomfortable per se, but not hooking them up 1/ helps with better flex movement of the foot and 2/ the quarters are far back and hence after the top hook is tied I have very less laces remaining to tie the berluti knot.
In any case I can very well hoop up the top hook and have no issues throughout the day.
