Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

My 4 year old Farmer Rancher 4811 last on distressed smooth. They see a lot of corral work and infrequent TLC. They are overdue for a good clean, oiling and brushing.

What is wrong with you? Wearing work boots to work in a field environment? These are meant for hipsters to jump on their cafe racers and go to Starbucks!

Here are the W&C Latigo next to my natural CXL. Almost the same build just different height (8" vs 7", rolled top, lined vs. unlined, and different soles).

The CXL has about 9 months of wear on it and has not been treated recently. I went on a 5 mile forest hike in them last weekend and just wiped off the mud with a damp rag when I got home so they are probably due for some shoe cream. They are also 11.5 while the W&C I went down to 11. The CXL has darkened up considerably from new. I do use Saphir on them when I treat them but raw denim has also left a mark.

Leather differences, at least in the tongue, the W&C is much thinner and is a bit stiffer. I know they will soften up with some wear but the shaft is also noticeably stiffer too. I need to wear them to break them in. I'll see how patina develops. The W&C looks like it will patina quite easily. It doesn't seem to scratch easily but bends in the leather bring out different colors.

By the way, the stitching on these is pretty decent. The lines are not perfectly straight and even like a pair of John Lofgrens but definitely decent and passable. I found only one stitch that I would consider wonky.

And here is the wonky stitch. Nothing to complain about or reason to send them back.

I am pleasantly surprised how Natural CXL can stand its ground, so to speak : )
Do you have celastic toes on Natural CXL? double midsole? and do they have commando soles?

Both of these have celastic toes and single midsoles. The CXL are Vibram 269 while the W&C are Vibram 430.

Not strictly a White’s question, but I figured I would take advantage of the collective boot wisdom here. I recently picked up this pair of very slightly used Chippewas, which have just a little rough spot on the leather of one of the toes. Any tips for smoothing it out?

Congrats, those are great. I think that is the best stitching I've ever seen on a pair of White's. Looks like they brought their A-game on that pair.

Yesterday, I was asked for some pictures of my Packer boots. This week I gave them a good wash and scrub with saddle soap, then let them dry for a day. I sanded the edges of the sole and heal stack and gave them three coats of resolene. I then treated the boots with Saphir Medaille d'Or Renovateur and gave them a good horse hair brushing. I also made a new pair of kilties (without the crinkle ornamentation for a cleaner look) out of some nice brown oil leather that I have. The color is a close match but not perfect.

You can see in the last picture what I meant in an earlier post about one boots toe wrinkling while the other hasn't.

Anyway, here's the pics:

I bought these NIB from eBay, so they weren't a custom order that I placed.

The 690 last will have more arch support than ANY other boot White's make.

OK, so it's a personal thing and lord knows I'm sure I have some sartorial predilections that others would find bizarre, but I've always been in the "structured toe" camp when it comes to boots. A burly boot with a withered, wrinkled toe just looks wrong IMHO. If you want svelte, low profile footwear then don't buy a boot!

Late to the party, but just wanted to comment that celastic toes are a must for me from a functional standpoint. I don’t need anything close to steel toe but the celastic has saved my toes many a time at work when getting stepped on by patients. Dogs have no concept of respecting personal space, sigh

Those veg tan LTT BH's look awesome. I was going to do a LTT build for my BH's but backed out at the last minute since I'm just an 8EE and I thought the shorter length with LTT would look weird proportionally. At this rate with all the changes I've made to my build I don't expect my boots to ship until April lol.

If it helps at all, my LTT BH are 6.5E, on the Swing last, no less. I feel they still look plenty awesome!
