Looking to place a Bakers order for Smoke Jumpers and Semi Dress’ but need your guys’ input on sizing.

for reference:
Brannock - 9.5
Viberg 2030 /1045 last - 8.5
Wesco MP 1339 Last -
Truman P-79 last - 9.5D
John Lofgren engineer last - 9
John Lofgren Donkey Puncher - 8.5
Alden 379x last - 9

and does anyone know what option I need to put for them to stamp the White’s logo on the side? Or is that standard?
You’d most likely be 9 on the 55 last. I find whites D width to be roomy, very similar to Aldens Trubalance in width.

The logo is standard on smoke jumpers and bounty hunters. It does not come on the SD’s, but you might be able to request it. And FYI, I think they’ve gone back to their old style stamp with just the lettering, not the fancy design they used to use.

thanks! So you’d suggest staying with a d width regardless? I don’t think I have a crazy wide foot

I’d say so. My foot is fairly average and I’d say the 55 last in D width is one of my best fitting boots. I sent tracings originally and Kyle was spot on with sizing.

After quite a bit of back and forth with Kyle, 2 sets of tracings, the customer service rep at Bakers convinced me to try an 8.5E for my bounty hunters ( my spec was a cinnamon waxed flesh cruiser with a 430 sole).
My Brannock is also 9.5D and I wear 9.5 D Allen Edmonds 65 last and 8.5D red wing 8 last.

My order is about a week or two from delivery. Hoping I have some recourse assuming the sizing is wrong and I need that 9D like you.

I have come to the conclusion from the myriad sizing threads, and real world results, that most people will be well served by the following advice vis a vis sizing into Whites:

4811 Last - Brannock Length -1; True Brannock Width
55 Last - Brannock Length -1/2 if your forefoot is wide, -1 if your forefoot is narrow; True Brannock Width
38 Swing - Brannock Length -1/2; Brannock Width -1
Barrie - Order Alden Barrie Size

A shortcut for the 55 Last: just order the same length and width as you are in Alden Trubalance.

Remember, I advise finding the last shape that best works for your foot shape before worrying about sizing... last first, then sizing... without knowing if the last will work, you are just chasing your tail trying to size yourself.

Granted some feet (like mine) are weird, and one size cannot fit all, but I think the above should work for most feet short of sending in tracings and measurements... change my mind...

That’s interesting. Do you have a low volume foot? I have little experience with AE, but I did have a couple pairs on the 65 years ago and a D width in that last was incredibly narrow.

The smokejumper last, not the 55, I’ve read is more narrow so maybe going to an E would make sense. As far as a full size down from brannock, maybe there’s more experienced people that can answer as I’ve only tried the 55, and the C641 lasts and half size down was spot on.

@Legal Eagles , this is a helpful comment and should be pinned somewhere. Makes sense as the 4811 smokejumper is the highest arch last and 55 last is a step down from that

Very interesting. In an interview with Stitchdown.com, Eric Kinney says the White's Barrie is "about a half size bigger" than the Alden.

I've got experience with the White's Barrie, but not the Alden. I take it they're actually about the same size?
I can only tell you what my experience has been... but I like my boots a little bigger, so if the White's was actually 1/2 larger than the Alden, and I ordered my Alden Barrie size in White's, it would likely "feel" good to me.
