Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

I've just curious, and mean no offense at all -
What's the reason for adding the lineman's patch on the Bounty Hunter/Semi-dress boots? Since the last two orders here include the patches, it just caught my attention. These boots are not tall enough to be wearing lineman's gaffs with, so I figured there must be another reason.

@e0d9n0b5, the patch on the right boot (only) must be intended for a specific reason? I thought motorcycle shifter perhaps, but that would be on the left boot...

Again, simply curious. Thank you!

They look cool. I'll gladly pay a $25 upcharge for looking cool. There is also some utility in mind for me - that particular spot is one of the highest-wear areas in my footwear, historically, so I figure an extra layer of leather there might give them a bit more life before needing a rebuild.

They looked really cool to me so thought about ordering a pair, but honestly I just find myself wearing boots so often even in summer that I decided to get something like that as boots instead.

Nice... I have a black RO pair of SDs (with 430 sole) and was going to order RO Bounty Hunters until I discovered just how thick the oil-tan RO actually is -- supple with little break-in problem, but too hot for my steamy feet, even unlined and even when it's below 40F outside. So instead I ordered basically what you got but with standard heel dark brown WF -- still a roughout leather, but slightly thinner and (sadly) tougher to break in because it's so damn stiff out of the box (I'm still battling with the uppers of my newish black WF MP-M1 boots).

Hopefully arriving before the end of winter (I assume sometime in January).

Why did you opt for the lowered block heel? I'm still debating whether to get a block heel or not (not a fan of the woodsman heel with the 100 lug sole), but I've not really seen pics or read any feedback on a block heeled, 100-lug whites boot. I did read somewhere a comment that suggested lowered block heel is a better option for rocky terrain.

The lineman's patch originated on lineman's boots, used for pole climbing and often with gaffs.They prevent wear on the inner surface of the boots where the pole tends to abrade them. The boots themselves are usually taller (up to 16") to pad against the gaffs as well as protect the lower legs against abrasions and splinters on the inevitable slips on the poles.

Baker's/White's hooked me up! I sent in my black HH SD's to get a warranty fix due to a squeak. The vamps had some bad grain break, but nothing I couldn't live with. Got my boots back today and they were rebuilt at no cost to me! When HH creases right, it really creases right!

the boots are just to look cool, no specific purpose. asymmetry for fun i guess!

I understand the confusion, and apologize that I misunderstood the question. I, too, get lost when the lines blur between boots intended for work and those intended for more leisurely purposes. There is no apparent practical purpose for the patches on the "Poleclimber Oxfords" pictured above, but obviously folks like them. They buy the boots and shoes they like, and I buy the boots that I like (and that I think are "cool" - with apologies and respect to @iamntbatman and @e0d9n0b5! ). All is well!

The combination of Black Friday sales and forums like this have my bank account begging for mercy I just ordered some brown WF Bounty Hunters because I needed a pair of 100-lug-soled winter ****-kickers, and now all the purdy pictures and build posts has my mind wandering to splurging on something prettier as an early Xmas gift to myself for surviving twenty-effing-twenty!

I've always been fascinated by brown bison (in a classic SD build with commando half sole) but am wondering if I'll hate that leather's weird showiness and end up never wearing them. And then there's the minor issue of whether to get a toecap or not -- does such a textured leather really warrant a toe cap? I think not. And does bison need lining? I hope not for my bank account's sake. Opinions, suggestions, discouragement, encouragement all welcome.
