Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

first pair of boots for me, as for many of us probably, were Iron Rangers, which have cork midsoles. I still believe them to be the most comfortable, foot-conforming pair of real boots that I've ever owned. I'm definitely pro-cork!

Interesting how we all got into boots, I never cared for boots and I had boots from companies like Frye's. My first pair of GYW boots were 'first ave' by Allen Edmonds and for the first time my feet was really happy : ). The addiction started there and I own over ten pairs of Allen Edmonds boots.I am slowly making my way into the world of White's : )

What is slightly alarming, however, is if materials like this creep in to a product that has not traditionally used them. Firstly, it makes one wonder what else has changed under the skin that we don't know about. And secondly it suggests cost cutting, which is a slippery slope.

I still have my trusty old IRs (8111) -- the first pair of GYW boots I owned and the only pair (so far) I've had re-soled. I thought they were comfortable until I tried White's arch ease in a boot that fit me better overall thanks to custom sizing. The IRs feel unsupportive and strangely rigid by comparison, despite the cork under the footbed (they're sadly not large enough for a thicker insole). I sold the rest of my Red Wings in the last year as my White's stable increased.

Same for me.

I never got any of the nasty break-in issues that some people complain of with Iron Rangers, though they definitely did get comfier over time.

I'd put my 2030 Viberg's as my most comfortable boots, but it's a close run thing between them and my Iron Rangers.

Semi-dress in brown dress leather (no toe cap, natural edge, standard heel, half-commando sole). Still my favorite White's boot.

Mine too was a basic SD in brown dress... funny how the old classics often work the best...

Some will swear the 4811 has more toe room, others will swear the 55 does. I think it comes down to what type of toe room you need. In my humble opinion, the 55 is wider, but the 4811 is taller, and feels more voluminous to me in that I can wiggle my toes up and down a bit more.

Length and width I take the same size in both, just the feel at the ball and toes differ. Both work, but having duck feet, I prefer the 55 over the 4811...(and the 38 swing over either!)

The MP and Americana in the video are both relatively low-arch, cap-toe, six-inch, casual 'service boot' styles. Why do you say they shouldn't be compared?
