Have you ever tried a wider fit?

No I haven't. Talking to Kyle, I could have a boot made on a combo last and keep my 11D heel, but add 1/4" or 1/2" to the ball area. (I would suppose this would correspond with an E or EE width boot in the ball area).

On Dress brown: I've never liked this leather's appearance, maybe it has to been seen in person to be appreciated, but some of the old, beat-up photos I'm seeing of it are a thing of beauty. I really love boots that have large color variations and depth to them. Pretty sure I've changed my mind from brown smooth to brown dress. It will get plenty scuffed-up on the job.

I have to add:
- Hugh Jackman
- Heath Ledger
- Eric Bana
- The Hemsworths
- Abbie Cornish
- Geoffrey Rush
- Rose Byrne

- Margot Robbie
- Emily Browning

In fact, I dare say we quite like out Australians. Or at least I do.

Yup!

Part of the beauty of the brown dress is that it can be all things to all people. Its versatility is unmatched!

I cannot stand beat up boots, so for me BD is a great choice because it takes a shine really easily and can be kept looking presentable... if you like the scuffed up look, the light brown core will show through giving you the wear pattern you desire.

It really is my favorite White's standard leather.

In the US we only know the following people from Australia:
1) Steve Irwin (RIP)

Although Russell Coight came before Steve Irwin, he is a general spoof on the genre. The jokes are very obvious but in my opinion he's a national hero.

Watch those 1-2 mins clips, I guarantee it'll brighten your day.

My final decision before ordering.
Does the midsole in:
natural darken to this brown after years of wear?
- or -
midsole in brown lighten to this after years of wear?

I'm not a natural midsole kind of guy but judging from a recent post on reddit about some Vibergs - the midsole darkening and looking dingy mainly comes from rough wear. The guy's midsoles were looking rather nice and bright even after 50 something wears in the city and office. It's made me consider trying a natural edge on a pair I'm gonna baby.

Hard to tell. Could be either. Darkening a light edge at a later stage is, however, a lot easier than lightening a dark edge. The natty edge on my brown dress SDs is actually already pretty dark so a lot depends on the build, but that's probably a bit of a lottery. Perhaps you could request the darkest possible midsole/heel leather.

@Legal Eagles just the eyelets of my Main Streets set off the metal detector today at the supreme court. I had to take it and my belt off - because of covid they are trying to avoid using the metal detector wand.

I think this is more likely a brown midsole initially

I agree that it is a brown. It hasn't exactly lightened, it's just worn and the outer layer has come away. Can be fixed with another layer, possibly some sanding.

That is one sensitive metal detector!

I am not sure about the Main Streets, but the heritage boots have like 80 nails holding them together... court security actually ran my SD through the X-Ray machine one time and showed me the scan... it looks like some kind of medieval torture device... the nails are clearly visible!
