^^ Those black smokejumpers (semi dress last?) are fantastic.

These pics deserve a bump... Does anyone know what the make up of this Bounty Hunter is? I want something like this with a Cuban heel and a different leather and color. Everything else is pretty much what I would want.

    So.... basically everything different?

They're on the SD last, I'm pretty sure. Looks like a double midsole in natural. Can't tell what sole... maybe the Vibram mini-lug?

Just going my research right now. Probably not gonna buy till next Winter. ;)

This is what I've got so far...

    Prefer BH over SD
Height: undecided between 6" and 7"
    Heel: Cuban over Block heel
Prefer single roll of stiching over double
    Undecided on the leather
    Sole: Vibram composition half sole

That's all I have right now...

Take a look at the pictures with the vibram half sole from the side, especially with the full-height heel. IMO it looks a bit exaggerated with the arch curve because the half sole tapers off into the arch, but that's a personal preference.

gd1944 has a pic of said sole makeup (even though he has it with a block heel) that gave me the inspiration:

As long as I stick to single mid sole (rather than double sole,) I think they look pretty good.

That block heel looks so strange in that picture. Or I could just be really used to Cuban heels now, lol.

I love Whites but their block heel is just too big and, well, blocky. I wonder if the could finish it a little slimmer on request, something closer to how Alden sizes their heels. Oh well, I like the standard tapered heel anyway.

Hi guys - after lurking around here for some time, I wanted to jump in on this thread and share a few thoughts.
I've been a long time White's Boots lover. I’m so excited to have found this thread and so many other guys who have such amazing boots. You’ve really opened my eyes up to what they can do.

I have a pair of black smoke jumpers that I got about 8 years ago. I love them, but don't wear them much now. They're just too heavy and clunky for every day wear with the heavy lug sole.

Also, I've come around to not like their high arch & heel concept. For years and years I bought into the whole foot bed - arch support theory, and now I think it's all hog wash. I have very high arches and a neutral stance, and I've found that my feet and body are much happier in flat shoes with no arch "support". If it works for you, then great! I'm not trying to start an argument or change anyone's mind.

Anyway, back to White’s, I’m planning on sending my SJs back to White’s to get resoled and modified. I’m also going to ask them to drop the heel height and arch height as much as possible. Since these boots are already made, they can only take off a small amount without interfering with the integrity and fit of the boots.

I want to have the heavy lug sole removed, and go with a brown leather edges. Not sure if I want to go single of double leather. And I’m not sure about the finished outsole – I want to go with a half sole as I don’t like the look of the full length rubber running into the middle of the heel block (and it’s easier for future resoling). I prefer a Vibram lug pattern for traction, but don’t like White’s mini-Vibram as I don’t care for the lugs not going to the edges. I also want a Vibram heel base, and not sure if White’s offers something other than their SJ Vibram heel. I may end getting just leather from them and getting them outsoled at a local boot repair shop.

One final thought for now re: heels – I really prefer the look of their Cuban heel, but only in the full height version such as on SJs. On SD, I prefer a dropped, block heel, but as many people have pointed out, they don’t cut it close enough and it comes across as too blocky, especially in full height mode. I think a lowered cuban heel on a SD looks too insubstantial and just not right. If they can cut the heel closer, then I think a dropped block heel would look just right.

I’ll post some before and after pics of my SJs when I get around to sending them off to White’s. Cheers guys! mpp

Block heel look better with single leather sole (makes it lower). Personally I think it goes better with swing last too.
The block heel as well as the cuban can be made 1/4" lower in request.

^ that is true, I had a swing last booth w/ single leather sole and a block heel and it wasn't bad. Still a little bulky looking but better than other configs I've seen.

I don't like lowered heels though...they always look out of proportion to me and like the boot is tipping backwards.
