The blue pair is a fantastic make-up ... save for the block heel, which to me, seems out of place with the narrow waist

'Here here' to the request for more pics!

I'd love to see a good close side shot of Smokejumpers in Black CXL, with either SD or 461 lasts... (I.e, Bounty Hunter or Classic Work Boot).

I know that doesn't count as exotic, but it's what I am thinking of ordering, so the more pics the better as I decide on last and sole options.

    Thanks!

Just received my White's SJ's (8" brown dress leather) from Baker's. Very happy with them overall. The only issue is this defect in the leather on the inside of the vamp.

My question: this looks like a natural scar in the leather...and these are boots I plan to use rather than baby (as much as possible with $$ shoes anyway). But is this something that passes muster with quality control or should I contact Baker's/White's?

Got in touch with Kyle at Baker's. His thought is that it's most likely an issue with how the boot was lasted. He's already contacted White's.

I should say that dealing with the folks at Baker's is a real pleasure--top notch customer service.

I agree, unless your look is Marc Bolan circa "Tanx".

I would mention it to them in such a way as you are disappointed, and want the matter settled. You would not mind a credit for a future pair, (if that suits you, as a rebuild will take 6-8 weeks) but you are quite surprised that it passed quality control...I would contact them, but frankly its a non-issue long term. It looks like something slipped in the building, but I do find it a bit unacceptable they went ahead and delivered it to you in that state...

Thanks--just talked to Baker's with precisely this line of thinking in mind. I can deal with the defect...my disappointment comes from the fact that these boots come at a premium cost--and that cost should include quality control to catch issues like these.

Pics are on their way after work... I'm done grousing! [IMG]

BTW talked to Kyle at Baker's. He'd heard back from White's about the defect--apparently it's just a fatty deposit in the leather, so nothing to worry about structurally. But they offered to discount the boots slightly, which was nice...I'm happy and happily give big ups to the folks at Baker's!

quick and dirty pic. awful indoor overhead lighting so I adjusted for it a bit. 8" BH with composite sole, heel lowered. Will most likely get a normal heel when I get them resoled. Oh, and this was natural edge. [IMG]

I'd be interested in knowing that too... It's got a nicely turned up toe, which I like. I would expect it to be 461 Last, but if it's SD then that makes me think I don't need the 461 to get that look.

I really like the shape of the boot. Classic.

BH is a SJ built on a SD last, so yea its a SD last. The toe is a bit exaggerated in this pic. Normally, the upturn isnt as severe as seen here, but it def. does it on its own. I think the lowered heel makes it seem a bit more pronounced.

Talking about the resoling and the heel size adjustments - I`m not sure that a heel adjustment will fit the way the boot is angled. I think they change the angle of the lie of the foot bed marginally to adjust the heel sizes, so that a change in heel size may cause undue wear in different places on the sole, and make your foot lie uncomfortably - any thoughts?
