Yup, you got it. Wish they were natty cxl. Oh well, maybe next pair...
reinforces my thinking that my next pair of White's should be in distressed smooth...it always looks damn good.
Yes, Distressed Smooth also is the thoughest leather White's provides.
Very hard leather, it is. Will need some breaking in.
What makes it the hardest leather? Just a different cut of cowhide or is it from a different tanning process?
It's much drier than the other Smooth Leathers White's provides. And base on my own experience, it is the hardest one.
I don't know much about the tanning process though.
Can you share the specs? Distressed smooth looks AWESOME!
They really looks sharp.
Interesting. I put a light coat of Obenaufs LP on them last night as they definitely felt dry.
Thanks! From my order confirmation email:

Those are going to look even more amazing, in a couple years.
Nice choice on the distressed smooth. A while back I posted an incredible pair of worn White's (not mine) in that same exact leather because I loved thet leather so much and needed an ID. They will soon look even more incredible.
Do you have the pic handy? Or is it in this thread? Would love to see some aged distressed smooths
Oh God, this thread is bad for my wallet. All those pics of worn Natty CXL is tempting me. Has anyone experienced stretching with CXL? I found my Alden Indy's in CXL to have stretched a fair bit... I'm pretty sad about that.
This is just my hypothesis, but the thicker leather of White's over, for example Alden, should somewhat mitigate the CXL stretching issue, no?
I visited the MOTOR shop in Tokyo over the weekend with my natty CXL Aldens on for comparison, but no comparison was forthcoming. They were a much thicker piece of leather, and the color and depth looked much richer. It was hard to imagine that stretching was going to be much of an issue, but again this is just a hunch.
Here's a pic of a new and a well worn pair:
Hrm, interesting, I didn't consider the fact that the thickness may vary.
