There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Question for anybody who got their SDs completely rebuilt or has knowledge about the complete rebuild of SDs. I understand that for the Smoke Jumpers and the Bounty Hunters, White's replaces everything except for the upper shaft. But with the SDs, the shaft and the heel is just one piece of leather. Does that mean White's will only replace the toe vamp leather on these?

Except that as far as we can tell they aren't brown/black dress by CXL, and unlined at that.

The "Amazon" SD' s are the hard copy catalogue version of the stock "Retro" SD. Single leather sole, close trim, stock "Cuban" heel, brown edge, and they are CXL. At least the ones I received. Amazon's description is not accurate, although their pictures are.:D

    2 questions:

    1. Anyone have photos of a brown dress leather SD with natural vs. dyed edge dressed midsole? Just trying to compare each in my final build config and going through the thread gallery, it's hard to tell which is which given many of the photos show boots with some age.

    2. Was initially going to go with a Vibram 269 sole to get slimmest possible profile, but I'm starting to like the commando half sole due to the interrupted heel stack it provides. The commando half sole seems to raise the front of the boot up higher, so in that case, does it make lowering the heel 1/4" unnecessary? In other words, does the combo of commando half sole + lowering 1/4" heel effectively lower the heel further than 1/4"?

Here's two images I have of the the SD in brown dress

The one with brown trim is a bit more worn, so here's a SJ with it if you want to see it like-new.

Awesome, thanks so much. Will be going for the brown trim based on those photos.

Where can I see difference between Antique, Nickel and Brass eyelets? (preferably on a brown colored leather)

Not sure whether lowering the heel 1/4" with the commando half sole is different than with another sole, but I have that set up (with the block heel) on my BH's and it's very comfortable. I won't ever order another standard heel.

At the top of the thread there's a link to view all of the images that have been posted here - browse to see much of the possible options White's has

Just placed my order for my first pair. Thanks to everyone for sharing knowledge which helped me dive head first into this. And yes, I really did read the entire 400+ pages of threads :)

Estimated build time was 6-8 weeks.

    My config:

    • Last: Standard
    • Toe Vamp Leather: Brown Dress
    • Upper (Shaft) Leather: Brown Dress
    • Leather Liner: Tan
    • Pull Loops: No Thanks
    • Toe Cap: No Thanks
    • Toe Bug Stitching: No Thank You
    • Toe Bug Stitching Color: Does not apply
    • Celastic Toe Box: Single Celastic Toe
    • Hardware: Antique Eyes & Hooks
    • Midsole: Single
    • Edge: Brown
    • Heel Base: 90 Degree Blocked off Heel (Traveler)
    • Heel Lifts: 1/4" Lower
    • Sole: Vibram 269
    • Sole Trim: Close Trim
    • Size - Length: 8.5
    • Size - Width: D (medium)

    Other:

    • They measured me out to a standard D width, but saw I have a narrower heel so are going to clamp the heel to tighten them up closer to a C at the back of the boot.
    • They confirmed they can do a slightly tapered heel for me like this.
