And it would be nice to have more pictures of the various boots with some age and miles on them -- but well maintained. I love the look of broken-in boots that have received the care and attention they deserve. If soldiers could keep leather boots looking good, so can the rest of us with a little effort. New is great -- well worn, broken-in and supremely comfortable is even better.

Seconded. Debating picking up a pair to complement my semi-dress boots.

I like it so much! It's so comfortable that I didn't need any time for breaking it in.

They do look like CXL and are definitely awesome. It's nice to see some pictures of boots with some wear on them too, as a few of you have posted. Since White's are designed originally as work boots, looking at them after they have done work is gratifying. Anyone else who can show us his boots with a few miles on them? Particularly boots that have been well taken care of by treating them with respect after use? [email protected], you must have some gorgeous, well-maintained boots with some miles on them by now! You obviously are one who takes pride in his boots. How about a few pics of your stable of White's?

This is an awesome thread! I have been a fan of White's boots for a few years and mostly followed/participated in the thread at FL. That thread is almost all SD. I like that this thread has a wider range of White's boots and some deeper info. For everyone's enjoyment, here are a few pics of my beloved SD.

I got them in Feb 2011. They are black cherry water buffalo with the swing last and a 700 half sole. I wasn't in love with the swing last when I first got the boots. It is wide and makes for a substantial look, especially with double-row stitching. But after I broke them in and got it used to it, I like it just fine now. It is definitely a very roomy toe box.

More than anything I think the swing last and double stitching makes for a more casual boot. At first I thought I would wear mine in a business casual setting with khakis and a sportcoat, but I found it didn't work for me. I think the standard last and a close trim is needed for that. So my SDs moved into a "jeans" role. Luckily my dress code at work has moved much more casual and I wear jeans almost every day now.

    Brand new:

    A month of wear:

A year of wear - you can see that the buffalo takes on a lot of wrinkles and texture. You can also see the thinness of the leather by looking at the tongue. The leather has scuffed rather significantly, but I have also allowed them to patina. The only treatment I give them is an periodic brushing and wiping with Obenauf's. I've never used any polish or cream. I haven't done any actual labor in these boots, but I think the buffalo has stood up well. I have no doubt it will last a long, long time. But as it is a thin leather, I wouldn't recommend it as a true work boot.

After shoveling snow this past winter. It's actually a terrible picture, but shows these boots can take some abuse!

My SDs are very comfortable. I've done an 8mile urban hike on cement and my feet felt great. I've also done 2-3 mile hikes on dirt/grass/mud. They aren't the perfect hiking boot, though. The ankle is too low (not enough support) and the traction on the 700 sole is minimal. But none of that is the boot's fault. I'm close to adding some SJs with 100 soles for that purpose. (Details to follow...this thread really helped me come up the specs I wanted.)

My SDs will remain the perfect casual, around town boot.

My SD's sole has exactly the same configuration as yours!
