Hi,

I posted this in the wrong forum before. I have never had shoes made for me before. I generally wear JM Westons for work Ferragamo's for casual and black tie, but I figured I would look into having some shoes made. What can you tell me about the process, costs and some suggestions on where (in NYC) to go. Thanks!

Aside from traveling shoemakers (I believe most come to NYC) there is Vogel. I've never used them, and have read mixed reviews. Search for "bespoke shoes" and you'll get many fantastic threads and plenty of informative reading material.

You may have seen this in another thread. Gaziano & Girling will be in NYC during April 09. It's not clear whether you intend to go MTO or bespoke. You may find you fit the standard lasts fine, although I would love a pair of bespoke if I could afford them. Are you looking for calf leather shoes?

I know very little about MTM or Bespoke shoes. Please tell me about the process, prices, etc...

Many good shoemakers, including Edward Green and Gaziano & Girling, will let you custom order any of their ready made shoes in whatever size you want - you pick the last, you pick the size, you pick the width, you pick custom details. The shoe is not custom made for your foot. Your in the $1,000-$1,500 for calf shoes from those makers.

Bespoke is offered by a number of makers, and you are talking $3,000-$5,000+

We'd want to go MTO then. Not sure if it's worth it though, I was more about the idea of having more input on the style.

You could give Koronya a try (via Rosenbaum) but I'm still waiting for any actual customer to comment on the product or experience.
