Have two custom spring/ summer fabrics. Both would be good for either suits or sport coats.

First is a navy and blue houndstooth Fresco. High twist, open weave, worsted wool. Good for spring/ summer weather because of its breathability; well-suited for travel because of its wrinkle resistance. Fresco has a bit more body than other tropical wools, which I find allows it to drape better. I also like the slightly rougher texture.

The other is a 60/ 40 linen-silk blend that's partly inspired by a raw silk jacket I saw on Taka of Liverano & Liverano. Unfortunately, raw silk fabrics are terribly hard to find if you don't have access to vintage fabric vaults, so I decided to put something together that mimics the texture. Given the variegated color and slubby texture, I like to think of this as a summer version of tweed.

DETAILS:

  • Navy Houndstooth Fresco: 10/ 11 ounce. 100% wool. Price is $75/ meter.
  • Summer Tweed: 9/ 10 ounces, although it feels more like 10/ 11. 60/ 40 blend of linen and silk, respectively. Price is $70/ meter.

Shipping to the US or Asia will cost $47 for each fabric. If you're located in Europe, shipping will cost less, but it depends on where you are in Europe. Unfortunately, I can't combine shipments if you buy both fabrics because they'll be coming to you from different places.

Attached are a few photos. There are the swatches (of course). One of the images has been slightly brightened through Photoshop, so the colors aren't accurate, but the image allows you to see the weave better. Use the head-on shot of both fabrics together for the most accurate depiction of color, sheen, and general texture.

The other photos approximate what the fabrics will look like when made up. The navy patterned jacket in the last image is actually made from linen -- Fresco will obviously wrinkle much less.

Note, I'm closing the window for orders at the end of this month. Since these are custom runs, once they're put through and delivered, they will no longer be available.

Silk/linen suitable for trousers?

Yes, I think so. It's actually sturdier than the Fresco, and Fresco is commonly used for trousers and suits. Weave is somewhat chunky and porous, but it doesn't snag easily.

How does the slik-linen blend handle wrinkling? I love linen, but don't tend to go below 12oz because I like rumples, but not creases.

At a minimum I'll buy 2.5 meters of the silk/linen cloth. I may increase that and I may add a length of Fresco as I think about the possibilities more...

It doesn't wrinkle as much as a pure linen in this weight would. I would say it behaves like my W. Bill linen suit, which is a 12/13 oz weight. More rumpling than wrinkling, as you say. Weave is a bit more porous than the W. Bill linens as well.

My man. Great minds.

(I think he's been looking for something similar to the Matka.)

Thanks to everyone for the interest. I think I've replied to everyone's PMs and emails, but if I haven't, just bump them again.

Yes! Absolutely something like this in the future. If I can rock it with denim in a pinch, it's the perfect casual blazer.

Both of these look awesome. Thanks for organizing.

Interested in jacket length for the Navy Houndstooth. Would it be cheaper to send to UK or Hong Kong? Not sure if UK will charge VAT.
