A fascinating project, Patek. Do you have links to the other SF threads about this artisan? Comparing readymade to bespoke, my SAB briefcase is looking more like a SOB one.

See below, he is a SF member and is aptly named himself "Casemaker"

I figured if I was going to spend SAB money, might as well do this as he is actually slightly cheaper than hand-sewn SAB. I did a search when I was deciding and found a few threads but not many. Contact him and he can get you in touch with customers--some of which have 2-3 bags of his going on 20 years.

Bag is just about finished (which is good as I have been carrying around this nylon Penn State bag from my EMBA class and have confused the hell out of people in the office)

Just making the passport pocket and lanyard and finishing the shoulder strap and that bad boy is ready to ship! Merry (early) Christmas to me!

So, the day of final payment has arrived and the bag is completed. I should have in in my hand in the next 1-2 weeks. From the pictures, it turned out absolutely beautiful and exactly what I had in mind--which is good as it should last me a lifetime. I'm glad I went without the newspaper pocket in the end as I think that would have hurt the looks of the bag in 10 years. I will have to put my boarding pass in my jacket.

So, with out further ado, here are the final pictures as taken by Simon prior to shipping. Full review to follow once received.

The pouch is for my passport and other small valuables to that they are not floating around and or get lost. Love the way the organizer compartment looks like it turned out.

Can't wait to get this thing! :slayer:

Awesome bag! Is this meant to carry around a laptop, ipad or tablet device? Curious as I don't see any padded compartments...

Good question. This bag was intended to last a lifetime. If you notice there are no linings, zippers, or other wearable parts. I wanted a zipper compartment for valuables and a laptop liner. I was advised against both of these as zippers eventually fail, padding gets flattened and whatever material it is made out of will get torn. The center pocket is bullet proof and if I feel like I need impact protection, I will probably just buy a sleeve for my laptop which will be change out as laptop and accessory sizes change.

I actually used this same mentality when purchasing a custom horsehide jacket--no liner! I love the way that worked out as it breathes so well with the suede side against your body.

Thanks for the thoughts behind that. yes, an appropriate sleeve sounds the way to go.

I can almost smell it in the mail...

I wish I had a bag to compare it to such as a SAB or even a Fison Leather.

You can always tote it into Sterling and Burke and wait for them to ask you where you got yours from. :D

That would work if we had a store in the US.
