I have a few pair of FF incotex pants that have no cuffs on them. I have recently decided I would like them to have cuffs instead of no cuffs.

Can a tailor easily add cuffs to these? How much material needs to be under the hemmed part?

Thanks in advance.

Depends on the size of cuff, of course, but if I remember, you need about 3 1/2 inches on average and I doubt you have that.

Say you want 1 1/2" inch cuffs, you need that material, doubled, to have the inseam remain the same.

For cashmere, wool, or wool blend trousers ask your alterations tailor to examine the cuffs to determine if there is sufficient material for "false cuffs." With as little current turnunder as about 2.25" it might be possible. The procedure requires no extraordinary alterations skill or expense. An invisible interior band can be grafted to provide sufficient weight to each cuff. Presuming there is some break in the leg's front crease, you might just need to sacrifice a little of your normal break.

If the trousers are cotton or linen you would be best to leave them as-is. The original hem crease will never disappear from this material and leave an unsightly line. Plant-sourced fabrics are just that way.

I have to admit the title of this thread sounded like an Eric Glennie brainstorm....

Less than that, probably closer to an inch. Of course the fold/pleat which replicates the top of the cuff would be a bit shallow and nearly the entire underlay would need to be employed, thus requiring suitable replacement fabric be used inside the cuff.

Does "unfinished hem" mean that it's "a go" for making "your own" trousercuffs (if the trousers have the proper lengthsize, that is)?

And another question: Is it possible for a tailor to make pleats on non-pleated trousers?
