Cufflinks on a jacket?

I'm sure this will meet with howls of derision. It's from Roberto Cavalli's s/s 2006 collection, and it looks like a jacket being worn with cufflinks...

I've never been into Cavalli stuff. Way too outlandish for my tastes. This outfit is surprisingly neutral for a cavalli collection

I know links were at least at one time common on military jackets. I'm sure manton could enlighten.

But notice the guy on the left with the open collar. Cufflinks on his shirt. He obviously doesn't dress like the young guys around here - his shirt is tucked in.

Roger Moore's Bond wore this style of jacket cuff once or twice....

You'll also notice it in Casino, worn by Robert De Niro.
