Whisk Hatch Islay??? Do you have any pictures? How did I miss seeing those? Or are they still in production?
I’m not sure if the factory has excess capacity at the moment, or if Alex worked some of her MTO magic to put a rush on these before C&J shuts down for the holidays (or a combination of both), but I was just notified my whiskey hatch grain shell Islay’s are ready and on their way…

It only took six weeks from initial inquiry for the finished product to be delivered to Jermyn St., so anyone else waiting on a MTO/GMTO to potentially arrive before the holidays may also be in luck…

Looking forward to these!

I am interested in this; let me figure out how to make it work. My biggest hang up is sizing which I assume their GMTO manager can support based on prior orders.

Hi @mikeharo

Sign-up for this GMTO has ended and it has gone into production now. You could try speak to the GMTO manager at C&J (77 Jermyn St) to see if you can maybe still get on.

The sizing recommendation by C&J is to go for the same size across the 325 and 335 as both lasts fit true to size.

Both have the same heel fitting. Some may argue that the forepart is slightly generous on the 335.

But anyway, as i mentioned, this GMTO has already gone into production.

For those of you who have done a one-off true MTO, can you tell me how one starts the process? Email to one of the Jermyn street stores? How does one know what leathers might be available, and lastly, is a narrower than standard last ever an option?

Thanks in advance!

As i understand you can have any last on any pattern, if it’s not been made before you may be asked for a one off pattern fee. So you can have a slimmer or wider last. True leather stock would probably be better to visit store but if you want an x leather in a y boot on a z last you should be fine.

Thank you so much! As I’m in the middle of the States, no nearby store I’m afraid. Is the first contact via email, and if so, could you advise which address?

You can order through a variety of C&J representatives, but I highly recommend you drop Ms. Alex Vigouroux a line at [email protected] - she’ll take great care of you!
Great info, and thank you for the other post for reference! Really excited to give this a try.

Anyone have a sense of the percentage or amount above a stock model price I should expect to pay for a single order MTO?

It's all dependent on which leather you choose. I believe the MTO fee is something like 30%.

I'm thinking of a single MTO whiskey shell Dundee boot on 335, but I keep waffling on the welt. Looks like the traditional route is storm welt, but I wonder if a 360° flat welt with fudging or even a notched welt might look nice with the broguing. Anyone want to help me obsess over this silly detail?

For me, the Dundee is not a rugged boot and I would not choose a storm welt but instead a flat welt.

Alright! Got the Harvard 2 MTO in the new Milled Calf leather. Going to break them in today at work. Very supple and feel more like slippers than loafers.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
