I’m tempted to sign up for the green Harlech but I have no experience with the 341 last. How does it compare with the 365 on the Islay? I’m an ~12D brannock and wear 11.5UK in Islay and the Moltons.
You could also contact C&J directly via email under [email protected] and ask them about sizing. Ms. Alex Vigouroux would be your contact. And please put "Harlech green cordovan" in the subject line to indicate that you are interested in that GMTO. However, there is always a risk that fit will not be ideal if you have never before worn a boot in that last before. And of course, GMTO boots cannot be returned if the size turns out to be wrong.

I would describe the 365 as being more roomy in the toe box. A quick look online and you’ll see the difference in shape and taper. More room for the toes in 365.

It is interesting that currently, Ridgeway soles are quite popular. During the last years, most GMTOs were either in leather or Dainite studded.

Good observation. Many find it more comfortable than studded, and it is more functional in inclement weather and terrain than both studded and leather, so it has a lot going for it. I guess that message is spreading. Though personally I would prefer Victoria, if it was available from C&J. Also, I’d like a boot on Commando in the not too distant future.

Does anyone have experience with import duties to the US for these GMTO? I’m new to all this and it just occurred to me that the tax is probably due if the shipment is worth >$800

@Gustaf Concerning this Coniston navy shell GMTO: Did you already ask/get a price quote from C&J for that make-up. I would expect it to also be GBP 975 but who knows. And perhaps, we should discuss the specification details. Does everyone agree to a flat welt? I think with the Coniston, a storm welt looks better and a flat welt would better fit a Harlech. But of course, that is individual preference. And the photo in the google doc shows contrast stitching in light or mid grey. Would we want to go for that, too? Contrast stitching is more casual. Thus, my preference would be:
Either: Storm welt, exposed brass eyelets / speedhooks and contrast stitching
Or: Flat welt / Storm welt, blind eyelets and matching stitching

What do you (and @SteveL91 and @harveyrabbit) think about the specification details?

My experience with this has been all over the place. One GMTO was $192, the next two they didn’t charge me anything, and the most recent was $67.

I haven’t asked about the price yet as I’d prefer to wait until we are closer to six participants, but I would assume it to be in that same ballpark.

I agree with your grouping of the specs into one slightly more and one slightly less formal makeup. (Good catch on the contrast stitching in that image btw.) Yes, the more formal one might fit the Harlech better but the difference in models between it and the Coniston is not that great. My preference is for the second of those two combinations – flat welt etc. – which is also the spec I listed in the GMTO sheet. What say the others?

I think the Coniston with storm welt, exposed brass eyelets / speed hooks and contrast stitching is my preference, with the addition of a dianite or other sole.

I do agree that the flat welt, and matching stitching would be better on the sleeker Harlech.

Neither of these makeups can be called formal in any real sense, given we are looking at a Navy cordovan make up.

Honestly, I just want to get this made, so I'll go with the majority. I would prefer a more casual makeup with a storm welt, exposed brass eyelets/speedhooks, contrast stitching, and ridgeway or dainite sole, but I'm not going to hold things up to get my way.
