Maybe she is on vacation. I know Europeans have a more than two weeks of vacation
hoit1981, I'm sorry if I'm asking a question that's already been answered but how many millions of pesos is this whiskey MTO boot going to cost?
Well, the boot is regularly £600. With the VAT deduction it'll come to £500. With shipping (£30) it'll come to £530 which is the equivalent of ~$850 (USD) or ~$11,202.20 (MXN).
hoit1981, thanks for the info sir. The price looks better in British play money than it does in Mexican pesos. $850 is the same price as a pair of RL Marlows if purchased at list price, so I'm still doing the mental gymnastics needed to rationalise yet another pair of shell cordovan boots.
I do understand. Personally, I'm thinking of this in two ways. Firstly, as something which will in all probability last my entire lifetime. Secondly, when will I get a chance to get a whiskey cordovan Harlech from C&J again? Probably never.
I also spent the entirety of 2012 & 2013 saving for my wedding (which was amazing), and feel the need (and importantly have the approval) to splurge on something awesome before knuckling down and doing things like getting cars, mortgages etc...
Guys, I just spoke to Lauren over the phone. She is working at the C&J store on 69 Jermyn street this week and doesn't have access to her emails. You can call her at the store if you need to talk to her (020 7976 2684). Basically, she's waiting for confirmation from her manager (who I assume is Steve Murdoch and is now on travel in the US, but will contact her by phone before Monday) before reaching out to us to finalize our orders. So hang in there guys!
^ Well done squire. Thanks for the info.
As far as i know the price 600 GBP includes 20% VAT. The VAT (in Sweden) is 25% on the price excluding VAT. I think its the same in UK.
So why can't we order sizes other than E width? If they are using different lasts for different lengths why the problem pulling out a D width last?
As per my conversation with Lauren -
If anyone is interested in a C & J stock model, you can have it shipped to the US along with your Harlech for an extra 5 GBP per shoe. Here are some of the quotes that I was given (prices exclude VAT taxes) -
Cottesmore Chestnut Burnished Calf 416.67 GBP (~$675)
Cardigan 4 Mahogany Burnished Calf 316.67 GBP (~$513)
Cardigan 4 Dark Brown Cordovan 450 GBP (~$729)
For reference, the dark brown shell cardigan 4's sell for around $950 at the C & J New York store. If only they sell a whiskey cardigan 4. Maybe the next MTO. Hmmm ....
I guess you need to compare to the Lindricks if anything, since they are boots and take more shell to make, and consider that it is a rarer shell color that dark brown.
Excellent point Winston. Do you own any of the C&J for RL Marlow shoes including the Lindricks, and are you going to be in on this Harlich MTO? Thanks.
I have the wingtips and the pennies. I really want to go in on this MTO as I do love the make up, but probably should not be spending the cheese. You are right, it is a lot to let go of, but a make up from Alden or Carmina should be priced around the same if not more. The benefit of doing the MTO compared to Alden though, in my eyes, is the improved QC, the rare-ish shell, and the sleeker than most Alden lasts. Not sure how much the quality will be improved or the last being sleeker compared to Carmina though.
I will probably wait till the last day to make a final decision, but looking at finances alone I am leaning towards no.
I'm starting to get concerned. I have not gotten any response to my email to Lauren. When does the MTO close?
I don't think the MTO will close soon. Most of us haven't heard from her either. Apparently she's waiting to hear back from others about the whiskey availability.
