Great choice you made on those monks by the way.
Just finished up taking some more photos. Hope to get them up soon!
All, here is the massive photo shoot from today...
First up the Whiskey Lowndes... I did these as an (expensive) individual MTO, they may be a good Group MTO someday if someone wants to get them rolling. I can send the exact specs to whoever is interested. Somehow my request for shoe trees got overlooked... No big deal, they are incoming.
And of course, the Group MTO Harlechs...
Color comparison against some Alden Whiskey Shell Cordovan. I only had my old PTB and Chukka (from ~2001), so I don't have a comparison against any of my recent Alden Whiskeys.
Have a great weekend!
^. Absolutely gorgeous! Great photography, too. Makes me want to get a good camera and learn.
Thank you! Saying that I am excited about them is a bit of an understatement! This is about as quick as I can turn around shoe photos...
I use a Nikon D90 with a 50mm f1.8 lens. I always shoot my shoes at f2.8, which makes them have a bit of a blur to them as they move away from the focal point. Definitely a great investment, for not much if any more than a pair of shell shoes. Prime lenses (such as my 50mm) can be purchased for just over $100. It is all I use, only problem with them is to zoom, you must walk... If you want photography help, I am a decent amateur photographer, not a pro by any means, but I can give you the basics to get you thinking correctly about it and get you rolling...
If you are actually serious, I suggest you get someone to champion a GMTO and do it that way and save a few hundred dollars over the individual MTO route that I went. Worth a shot... I had a lot going on when I ordered these and I really wanted them, so I just bit the bullet. Wait until I get the Skye 2's in production though! We don't need to saturate the shoe collectors yet!
Absolutely flawless Mike! I have to say I am very impressed with the level or care and finish that C&J appears to have put into those.
Hmmm, I just might consider giving it a try. And then I may take you up on your offer. One thing that holds me back is I love to travel and like to travel light. My Lumix can't produce the kind of pics yours can but the Lumix fits in my pocket. But still, probably worth the hassle once you start to appreciate the quality.
Your input and offer is much appreciated, Mike.
Look into micro 4/3 cameras, I have a olympus om-d em5 I took travelling recently, and it was amazing to not have the bulk of my D50 + wide angle lens. The decade of technology improvements means the pictures are also better
Back on topic...another Harlech GMTO anyone? I'm kicking myself, and the only consolation I have is I didn't know about the last GMTO until after it closed!
That's a super haul mdubs, nicely done.
Or Sony RX100 series. Pretty incredible camera for the size
I think you'd be lucky to find another 11 people willing to get on another whiskey Harlech mto... I would see if you could arrange another makeup - maybe a whiskey Gianni or something?
let's get off the whiskey train and move on to some other shade of cordovan...
Mike got me started with Aldens....now it looks like C&J may be next..
Any current shell MTO projects? .
^ color 8 and antique edge shoe or boot like Leffot's Alden models?
