Does anyone here have the C&J Lowndes and a say the Hallam, Westbourne or Edgware. I am interested what difference there is in fit between the Monk Shoe and the Oxford style on the same 348 last.

I have the Lowndes in a UK 9.5 and was thinking of either the Hallamm Westbourne or Edgwear. Length wise I am ok however right foot a little tight (although has given a little). Would the oxford be more forgiving or should I bump up to a 10? I am worried that the 10 might give me more length which I do not need. I need a little more width.

I am also interested in what colour the Westbournes are. They are listed as Burgundy on the shoe Pictorial Index (Crockett & Jones/ Westbourne) however the C&J catalogue do not mention that a Burgandy color of this shoe exists.

I find the laceups such as the Hallam fit better than the Lowndes. By the way, the Hallam in Beechnut looks just like the Lowndes in brown. (cap toe and all)

Better in that the lace ups are snugger? Is it quite pronounced or minor?

These were originally my pics, and the shoes are in chestnut burnished calf. I just have a crap camera.

Got a Lowndes, Hallam and Tetbury and another I've forgotten - all on the 348 last. I bought the Lowndes in UK10 and have all the rest in UK9.5 - all in E width. I reckon I could have stuck to 9.5 for the Lowndes, but I had a problem with too-tight monks from a different brand. I'd stick with the same size for all 348's.

Just to complicate it, I discovered a really knowledgeable shoe store from whom I got 2 pairs of 348s in 9D fittings - which fit great...

I am looking to pick up some CJ's in 348 and it sounds like we have the same size foot, I am soo afriad of them arriving and not fitting though, what size shoes do you were in other brands (if you dont mind me asking)? when my feet are properly measured the right is about a 10.5, the left about a 10.75 (11)... width wise I can do a D or E in many brands....

I wouldn't say snugger fit, the lacing makes it a more comfortable fit.

Where can you get 348's in a D fitting?

Good point, I've always found monkstraps to be slightly less comfortable, but for me the issue can also be one of them being slightly looser fitting than lace ups.

They (Lowndes) are a loafer with straps, so I am not surprised that the laceups fit better. The other thing I noticed is that the Lowndes took a long time to break in where as the others did not.

Long way from your neck of the woods, sf-esq: www.sirmax.nl. Compared to that other thread, this is one of those stores where the service is brilliant (I'm sure any Dutch SF'ers will chime in). I bought the Lowndes in suede in 9D after umming & ahhing for almost an hour - and I only turned up as he was locking up the shop at 6pm...!

All the sizes I mentioned are UK sizes - I'm in Europe. I have a 44 in Vass U last, 44/10 in Carmina, and UK10 in some other brands like Cheaney (and Chucks).

If you don't have first-hand experience of Vass or Carmina, my foot in dress socks measures 28.5cm long and 10cm wide straight across from little toe to the ball of the foot. Too much info?

If you went from a size 9.5UK to a 10UK how much extra do you get? Is the half size increment mainly in the length or also a little in the width and girth?

I'd say both length & width. The 10UK Lowndes is a bit less snug, but by no means loose - no slipping at the heel or anything. I'm by no means an expert.
