Actually, pics like that make me realize how much I like cigar.

Then I realize the versatility of color #8. The coveting never ends.

    It doesn't, does it?

You've basically summarized the mood and tone of the opening couplet of a famous verse by the (arguably) greatest poet of the Indian sub-continent, a man whose influence can be compared to that of Shakespeare's, albeit in a different culture.

Hazaaron Khwaahishe Aisi Ki Har Khwaaish Pe Dam Nikle
Bahut Nikle Mere Armaan Lekin Phir Bhi Kam Nikle

    A poor translation:

A thousand desires have I, and each worth dying for
And many have I realized, but it was not enough, not nearly enough

The poet is Mirza Ghalib. You provided a pretty good translation but the verse in Urdu is one of his masterpieces. And I also think it captures the experiences of many of the forum members.

will the #8 cordovan captoe boot from C&J for BB ever go on sale again anytime soon? how often does BB have sales, I asked the SA and he mumbled something about being not often. I didn't get the boots during the black friday sale and now regretting it. its either C&J or the alden captoe on the plaza last they have on preorder on LS, but the wait is 9-16 months...:fu:

if you wipe down your shoes with a cloth and bit of paint thinner, the built up shoe polish gets taken away, the patina disappears, and burgundy color becomes flat. all the so called "character" your shoes achieved is just the factory paint and your built-up polish chipping off at different rates; it is so artificial. if you take it all off at once with the paint thinner, you will see at the end of the day your shoes are just dried animal skin with color dye. no worries, you can apply more shoe polish and start over again.

    Just arrived from Mr Porter.
Fits my slightly wide UK 9 feet as gloves.

    FYI. The box is marked 10E + UK9 + EUR 43.

I just got a pair last week. I called the catalog number and told them what I was looking for and that they appeared to be sold out on the web site. She found the product number of the BB Captoe Shells for me and then did a store inventory search and told me what stores allegedly had a pair in stock (4 stores in all). It was New Years day I believe and BB was having a 25% off sale. The first store I called had my size but told me the shell shoes were not included in the 25% sale. I insisted that he check and he came back and said, they were in fact on sale and I could have them for 25% off. I asked about the after christmas sale price and he told me too bad. I then called a second store. They too had a pair in my size. I asked about the after Christmas sale price and the salesman said, "sure I will give you that price". I also had a bonus card and got an additional amount off. If I recall correctly, the after Christmas deal was 25% plus another 15% off, something like $636.
They are very nice and I am happy with the price but for my first pair of C&J's they don't live up to the hype. Had I paid full ticket I would be upset. Here is my assesment of my shoes
