After receiving my Marlow a few weeks ago, I finally wore it to work today (with suit but tie-less)

I normally wear between 10-10.5 for OTR shoes so when I ordered the 10D, I was slightly worried there's a possibility that it could be too snug.

When I put it on this morning, it was snug but comfortable and I could feel that the upper had some give to it.

A couple of hours later, the shoes mold to my feet and now they hug my feet like a pair of glove.

Now my question is: I love the shape/last and the double sole but do not think I could pull off wearing a pair of wingtips in more formal settings. I don't neccessarily need them in shell cordovan, where can I get myself a pair of quality oxford/balmoral that have similar shape/last and double sole?

I guess you want to start by seeing if there are any Crockett & Jones oxfords on the 325 last. I don't believe there are.

But this one is on the (similar) 341 last, on which the Marlow PTB is based.

Doubt it has double soles though.

BTW, I came across this comparison of C & J lasts awhile ago that I thought was helpful:

Are you sure that PTBs are on 341 last? I was under the impression that they are on 325.

    Thanks to all the responses.

Follow-up question: How easy is it and is it advisable to get a regular pair of dress shoes and have a cobbler add an additional sole to make it a double-soled?

Also, can someone please confirm that the Marlow is indeed built on the C&J 325 last? I have the Swansea in 341 last, I don't dislike it but I'd like something a little bit 'heftier.'

I'm going by two pieces of information; first, this thread:

    http://www.styleforum.net/t/46552/crockett-jones-for-polo-master-list

.. and second, the fact that I think (based on my own experience) it fits a little tighter than the wingtip, and so doesn't feel like the same last.

I'm no cobbler but I don't think that's possible. You would have to remove the original sole and slap on a double.

I'd bet money that the Ashdown and the ptb are not the same shoe

Yep. If the shipping wasn't so high I would have gone $400 no problem, I just sold a bunch of stuff specifically to buy these. Now I have $400 toward something else though :)

Why do you say that? They sure look exactly the same (minus the metal eyelets).

I have Ashdown in burgundy shell on the 341 and it certainly looks a different shoe to the RL PTB. Based on photos I've seen of the RL PTB here and elsewhere it looks like it is based on the RTW C&J Grasmere shoe which is made on the 325 last for UK E fit and 317 last for UK G fit.

I believe C&J used to make a RTW shell version of Grasmere before replacing it with Ashdown. Compared to the 325, the 341 is a longer last but in my experience the 325 is slightly roomier in the fit.

The wingtip is 100% on the 325. My understanding is that hte PTB is on the 341. Send an email to C&J. They're forthright about this sort of thing.
