reduce the welt/frame a bit and they're even nicer, imo.

    imo, it's a draw.

the rear part is more refined on the lindrick, while the wingtip is better balanced on the alden.

I would say so - at least relative to my Aldens. A UK 6.5E in the C&J 325 last is the same length as a US 7.5D Alden Hampton last. However the 325 is at least one, and maybe two widths narrower. The Hampton last is considered to be a relatively "normal" fitting last by Alden standards.

...but that's why aldens are called gunboats?

I thought about that after I posted. I guess it might be more illustrative if I share my measured size: I'm right between a 7.5C and an 8B. The 325 last in UK 6.5E fits perfectly in length and is the slightest bit tight in the toe box when new. I'm sure that as the footbed compresses they will loosen up to perfection. I doubt I'd be able to wear them if I measured one size wider.

Another thing that's interesting about the 325 last is the height of the instep. I have super high arches so almost all my shoes seem to be busting out at the laces. The Darltons actually close a little bit more than I think looks optimal for a Blucher. I can't imagine what it would look like for someone with flat feet. I think the lacing would completely close and probably still not be very tight.

I really need to pay closer to attention to RL sales....I would finally pick up a pair of Darltons if I could get them at the next 50% off sale, whenever that may be.
