They are not ravello. That is unfortunate. Sorry that happened to you.

I'm sorry that had to happen. I've noticed some people describe crockett and jones' dark brown shell cordovan as "cigar", which I suppose is fine (I describe it as "cigar/dark brown" too sometimes in my ads), but I think describing these as "ravello" is a bit of a stretch. They're still great shoes! Give them a nice shine and you have yourself a fine pair of shoes.

fuck mac method. its convenient only because Alden's are so easy to care for and typically require only a quick brush

I think Mac Method works much better on Alden's than C&J's. Some conditioner and/or shoe cream remedies C&J shell dryness for me.

Has anyone ever put Saphir Dubbin on cordovan? Just conditioned the vamp of a few calf shoes with it

Stuff is crazy potent. Dunno if it's compatiable with horse membrane though

Saphir Reno only seems to work great for me. It has loads of mink oil in it.

Reno seems to make mine more cloudy. Even after experimenting with the time allowed to dry I can't get Reno to work. Next step will be cordovan cream. Also considering lexol.

My biggest dilemma is whether or not to use reno'mat. I'm wondering if it would be good to strip them down and start over. My biggest concern is that the reno'mat is harsh and I would damage the leather. But that is compounded knowing that cordovan is very resilient. So, I'll probably do nothing.

I used lexol conditioner on my Marlows a couple of months ago; they sucked it in like it was nectar from the gods, and I have not had any problem with dryness afterwards. They darkened some, but did not go cloudy as they did when I used Reno. Some wax and microfiber buffing resulted in a beautiful shine.

I did the same with leather honey and was alarmed how quickly it was absorbed. It's my favorite conditioner. My Marlows went from feeling like cardboard to like..well..nice soft shell.

I was at the Beverly Hills store today, and SA told me they got a new batch of Marlows and C&J changed their leather to other cordovan. Can anyone confirm if that's true?

SA told me they just received the batch, so I am guessing they'll be opening their boxes when their old stocks run out or something.

I don't know how new batch is going to be different compared to the old one. It could be minor change.

Same supplier I believe, but little difference in the color of cordovan. Will report back when I hit the store later this week.

I've been thinking of trying this stuff, does it darken the shell much?
