Beautiful picture bucksfan. Gianni looks like a refined indy boot. What do you think of the shaft length?

GM, a lot of sizing info the past couple of pages. 1/2 size down for boots seems to be consensus

Hey guys, long time lurker here. Here's my first real contribution to the forums. I bought a pair of the Mccallum cordovan chukkas in size 9. I know most of the discussion is around the lindricks and giannis, but these boots look great! They came out of the box with a nice shine, and have a leather sole on the bottom. That's right, leather, not rubber as the site says (it certainly appears to look like leather to me). They look nice enough for me to wear business casual regularly, and certainly even with a suit. Though I haven't put them on with jeans, they don't seem like they would be too out of place (of course by this I don't mean just jeans with a regular t shirt, as that's too informal). They were also sleeker than what I expected, though they could be even sleeker I think (not much of an issue).

As for sizing, I can wear 8.5D in AE, though 8E fits slightly better. Both are on the tighter side though, if only slightly (on the 8.5D the vamp forms a V, showing how high my instep is). I also wear a 8.5 in Clarks chukka boots. These RL/CJ size 9 chukkas fit me very well. After I tie up the laces, I don't feel any heel slippage, and I get ample room in the front. I also tried these on with wool socks that are on the thinner side. I do have a higher than average instep though, so I think that's why these size 9 ones fit so well.

My only concern for these shoes is I read one or two comments about how RL/CJ shell gets dry? Is this a big problem, and will regular maintenance solve this issue? Can anyone provide some insight onto this?

Also what is RL's policy regarding imperfections? There is a scratch on one or two parts of the shoe. Will they go away with regular cordovan care? And does anyone know if these are benchgrade or handgrade, or does that not apply to cordovan (in which case how do these stack up to Alden's cordovans?)

You can remove it easily yourself, don't bother with return. Use a deer bone or aspoon or a brush (although long time for brushing).

Would be nice to see the pics of you new boots.

The shaft is pretty long, but I don't find it uncomfortable at all. Even driving my wife's suburban this morning on the way to Costco (lol), I don't have any problems.

I ended up returning the size 12 lindricks, too large and too much overlap with my Marlow wingtips.

How about the shell drying issue?

Also, bear in mind that when I say I like the look of these shoes, this is coming from someone in their early 20s just getting into menswear. My experience with super high end footwear is still very limited. Here are a few pictures though:

Some notes about these pictures: They are of a lighter brown than shown in the picture, though you would still call them a dark brown if you see them in person.

Yes they are. It's a pretty old model though.
I bought and returned a calf pair many years ago.

Dry shell is not a big deal unless the shoes have been left dry for a long time. I would just slap on some reno or venetian a couple of times during the first couple of weeks.

Nice shoes by the way. Did you get them at the store? I'm looking for a pair in a 9D.
