I use Reno on my shell shoes. Some people prefer Venetian, but you certainly don't need both - just one or the other, and use it sparingly.

Can you name any other clothing item associated primarily with men over the age of 40?

At a certain in time you could have said the same thing with cardigans a la grand pa. It all depends on how people perceive them.

I'm in my early 20s and wear tassels all the time. Then again I grew up wearing them and have a distinctly trad/preppy edge to the majority of my looks. Either way, I never understand when people say they look frumpy or old man-ish.

You're a perfect example of how one would not perceive it as old-man-ish, because you grew up with them. Personally, I never grew up with anyone that wore tassel loafers.

I'm a loafer guy in general (again I guess that's more of a trad thing?) Either way I have three pairs of tassels in the current loafer rotation: Marlow (cordo), C&J (suede) and Grenson (calf).

Yes. The only reason anyone can ever cite for tassle loafers being "old man shoes" is what they imagine they will hear from others via telepathy.

Do people remember how much the Darlton / Marlow wingtips were last year?

Does anybody know for sure what last the RL Marlow PTB is on. Definitely a slightly shorter and maybe narrower version of the Shortwing 325 last. I am thinking it's on the 341 last possibly.

What's the consensus on the Marlow shell wingtips sizing? I've seen in this thread that some felt it's 1/4 size too big, others 1/2 size too big.

I'm a standard US 9D and I have a pair of size 9D Marlows that are slipping in the heels just slightly enough for me to find them a bit uncomfortable during long walks.

If someone here has a pair in 8.5D and is experiencing the opposite problem, I would be interested in a trade (see my sig below).

I would say they are 1/4 size large. I base this on the fact that the Alden Barrie last is widely considered to be 1/2 size large and the Marlow's fit a bit tighter than the Barrie. That said, many people size down 1/2 and are fine.

I am also not thoroughly convinced that the Marlow wingtip is actually on the normal 325 last.
