Critique my TaT suit fit

Hey guys just got my new TaT suit yesterday and had it pressed. It is the Fall '08 charcoal in conservative cut. Suit measurements appear to be 18" shoulder, 42" chest and 24" sleeve. Dress shirt I'm wearing is Brooks Brothers slim fit 15.5/33. How does it fit? The pictures are brighter on my camera but when they get transferred to the computer they darken a couple shades so the suit is not as dark as it appears in the pics. I don't have any photo editing software to change the colors to match what it looks like in my camera. ***new updated pics. Changed shirts and watched my posture***

I'm no tailor, so I have no idea how to explain; but, something is off in back in the waist area--lot's of bunching. From the front, it appears it could be taken in a bit at the waist. Overall length seems short, but I suppose that is part of the TaT look. The sleeves seem a bit short as well (again, likely part of the TaT look).

Overall, not bad...especially if it's your first TaT and you sent measurements into Jason.

However, a couple things to look at (IMO):

  • Shoulders: too wide
  • Neck: doesn't sit on your neck
  • Back: weird bunching near the waist

This is dead right. The shoulders are too wide which is why you get that bit of buckling at the sleevehead. The neck measurement looks too big. See an alterations tailor who ought to be able to fix up the neck more easily than the shoulders. In fact, once the neck is fixed up a bit, you could probably live with the shoulders, anyway, as they don't look that bad as is. The back doesn't drape properly as it is too tight round your bum and hips. Again, an alterations tailor might be able to let things out a bit and try to fix this up. Overall things are fairly nice. Your sleeve length is good. Before you buy another, get these changes made and then note any difference in the measurements; perhaps you could even get a good tailor to take them for you, as they're much better at it than us. Men, in particular, like to exaggerate their shoulder width and chest size and underestimate the size of their hips, as might have happened here. God knows I do it! In my head I look like this

but in reality it is probably more like this

I think it looks about like what you were going for. Collar gap is bad though, but I think that can be fixed? I agree the shoulders look wide-ish.

Make sure you keep your back to any walls available though.

I guess I should lay off those glut exercises lol. I noticed the bunching in the back too but if its let out too much to get a better drape that is going to affect the overall width right? And that would increase the front width too making me look fatter? The thing is my back is kinda curved and my butt sticks out kinda far so body measurements don't take that into account....so what do I do and what do I tell the tailor?

Ok I can see how the neck might be too big since the shirt is sticking out outside the collar area. How does a tailor decrease the neck area exactly?

Too wide by how much? This was the toughest measurement to get so Jason and I settled on 18" (back shoulder)....quarter inch? half inch? whole inch? I can try to take a closeup shot of shoulders or something for those with good eyes.

Those photographs look much better. When you say you've taken more note of your posture, do you mean that you are standing more erect now or more naturally? If it is the former, that could be a problem, for as soon as you revert to your natural posture, the problems will return. If it is the latter, then you're in luck, as the coat will hang like that normally.

I relaxed more for the newest pics. Who would have thought that it would make the pics look better lol. I was tryin to stand tall and straight for the first ones.

Oops, That was my bad. I hastily looked at the pictures and thought your shoulders were extending past the shoulder of the suit.

The suit shoulders definitely are too wide.
