Criterion Collection includes forum faves La Dolce Vita, 8 1/2, Seven Samurai, and maybe Le Samourai, not sure. They usually go for $40 and up on DVD, but Amazon picked a dozen or so to put on sale for 45% off, including Seven Samurai. Overstock usually has a similar deal, but doesn't ship to APOs

M, and just about any fritz lang film is great. Peter Lorre is extra creepy.

I was sad that Tokyo Story didn't make the sale list, I really want to get that one.

Oooh, excellent call. Good film. It is rare to find Criterion DVDs on sale.

Do you buy them from the third-party sellers on Amazon?

I once saw an almost complete Criterion Collection DVD set on eBay for about $1,000.

Strange, as that turd Salo goes for around $600 alone. Unless that was one that was not included.

All bootlegs or incorrect versions. Scroll down to the one from the ebay store that says "white ring."

For future reference, deepdiscountdvd.com usually has the best prices on DVDs, plus free shipping (media mail). If you sign up for the e-mails, you'll receive notices about several 20%-off-everything sales once or twice a year. Amazon has them beat on some of the Criterion editions right now, but not all of them.

The only authentic (American?) Criterion versions have a white ring around the hole in the center of the disc. It's extremely rare, hence the typical $400-600 asking price.

It seriously boggles the mind what people pay for some things.

Then again, people probably think I'm nuts for some of things I've spent money on in my day, so chacun a son gout.

I just checked one of my Criterion DVDs and it had some sort of a silver mirrored ring.

The only reason it's selling for that much is that it's oop (out of print/discontinued) hence why it won't be included in the criterion collection sold on amazon, same for "the killer" and a few others. Since Criterion editions of these movies aren't the best available (for exemple the HK legends The killer is a lot better and the french one has the taiwanese cut of the film on an extra disc) it's mind boggling what people will pay for these titles.
